Storms and convective discussion - 18th June 2020 onwards

Recommended Posts

Yep turning into another dreadful year I tend to not think much of August, had a decaying thunderstorm in June and a few days with distant thunder. Again it seems to be a year up north does better, the lack of weather since 2018 is really quite something.

And now we can’t even go abroad to see storms 😭

If you're talking about a ridge of the Azores high followed by more Atlantic fronts, then you're right.

Models continue to look anything but stormy. I don't even recall the last thundery August either, so this year could go down as the worst ever for me. Not bad for others of course further north.

It certainly would for me if it continues like this. Usually see at least something but this year so far there’s been nothing at all. Haven’t really had any heavy showers either let alone storms.

Wasn't August 2004 something like the thunderiest uk month ever or something?

Yeah, missing the French/Spanish plumes that's for sure, it has been dire so far for storms down here, so far...

Storms here have been in decline for a while although we've seen plenty of lightning in thundery showers actual storms so far very few.

You'll be pleased you can't remember Summer 2004. A couple of good weeks in June then it all went south, literally. Some of the coolest, wettest summer weather I'd seen since 1997 and 1998 which were also dire.

I’m holding on to the fact that one of my favourite storms in recent years took place in September (2nd, 2017)

Good things come to those who wait, right?

I wonder if the longer you have to wait the better it is. If that's the case I'll be expecting a beast of a storm when it eventually arrives since I've been waiting for a year now.

Best non summer storm around here happened over night, in I think it was October, basically a line of storms kept building right on the coast, from about 2 am till twelve pm the next day. It a local phenomenon for that time of year, when conditions are spot on.

Some gorgeous chunky AC about tonight. If only this front was coming in from a different angle, to give a few more convective ingredients

Only a 52% chance for the whole of next year? That sounds about right 😆

Thought I’d give it a week or so for something, but there isn’t even any sign of anything remotely interesting whatsoever in what is becoming the most boring July I have possibly ever witnessed. Beyond dire! Much of France and NW Europe is also in the same boat by the look of it too, which is even more shocking!

Best bet at the moment is a low risk on Saturday - subject to change of course at this range and just for fun at the moment!

Something to keep an eye on in these desperate times for UK and Ireland storm lovers! 😄

All the best everyone.

That looks like it'll end up been a small trough with heavy rain and may be some thunder in the mix moving se. May be a sharp cold front, we will see.

Looks like it will be more nothingness to waste any excitement on.

I’ll just wait until September thanks

It is feeling quite negative here after not looking through here in a while, though I can definitely understand why 😂 .

The UKV is not looking too bad for Saturday really, and so maybe there is still some hope? I also think that the last few years have always had something big near the end of July, and I don't really see any big events coming anytime soon, so I feel a bit 'depressed' storm wise.

Here are Saturday's UKV charts though
