Doesn't look like it's gonna last long although it seems more might form behind a bit later.

Thanks @Flash bang flash bang etc. Yes, not all storms are easy to chase, and the fast motion of Friday's storms made it quite difficult. However, I still got something. Storms do need witnesses. That being said, here is my video of the chase

I think I must have been literally no less than a mile behind you! Also turned off the M180 at that same junction, but stopped in the layby on the left and decided to call it a day there, I was waiting to see if I could spot myself in the video!

All eyes to next week now with another plume on the cards!

So you probably witnessed the same lightning i did approaching junction 3? Unfortunately that junction was closed, had it been open i probably would have got into that storm.

End of next week and beyond looks good. Plenty of heat/fuel with increasing CAPE. Let's hope we get a trigger and it comes off. I'll be out again if at the weekend or work permits it.

Few pop-up thundery showers possible tomorrow. Stronger wind shear further inland but April-esque hit n miss showers.

Some decent cloudscapes though!

Yes, a few more heavy showers in the East tomorrow but, according to the BBC 7-day forecast on Countryfile tonight, there is little likelihood of thundery activity later in the week when it is expected to hot up again.

Azores HP convection killer!

Looks a bit April-showers-ish to me. Hopefully some hefty downpours later on

The Friday potential for the south is now potential in the north instead. Couldn’t make this sh*^ up.

chance for more central areas on sat or maybe Sunday - but there’s caveats, as usual, and the language being used suggests it’s erring on the side of unlikely to happen.

oh to have just one storm...

Day 1 Convective Outlook

VALID 06:00 UTC Tue 04 Aug 2020 - 05:59 UTC Wed 05 Aug 2020

ISSUED 06:51 UTC Tue 04 Aug 2020

ISSUED BY: Dan

Frontal rain affecting Scotland, Ireland and northern England through Tuesday may contain some embedded elevated convection at times, although saturated profiles and meagre CAPE suggests the overall risk of lightning in any one location is quite low (5-10%). However, during the early hours of Wednesday a pronounced upper trough and associated PVA / lift on the forward side will engage with the frontal boundary over the Atlantic, causing it to buckle in shape and creating an overlap of cooler, drier air aloft atop warm, moist low-levels. Consequently there is an increasing risk of deep convection and sporadic lightning in the vicinity of SW Ireland later in the night, and as such as SLGT has been introduced. This may persist beyond this forecast period (after 06z Wednesday) across other parts of Ireland. Some hail may be possible, perhaps up to 1.5cm in diameter.

This is still quite far out at this stage so I'm not getting excited yet, but the ECM, GFS and GEM have been showing widespread thunderstorms being wafted up from the continent next week. One to watch.

The other day it looked like there'd be a plume this weekend. That's now been once again quashed by so****g ridging once again from the SW. I'll believe stormy charts for next Tues/Weds if they're still showing come Sunday.
