I keep hearing deep rumbles, surely ii cant be hearing it from 40 miles away.

Sounds very much like thunder.

Hearing the same thing here too, heat-lightning maybe?

Thunder can be heard here so it's either very loud or the radar is well behind.

IT was very loud and i am further north than you.

The western side of the storm is concerning me looks fairly weak so could well die away as per normal before reaching us.

Over wirksworth right now, very loud rumbles of thunder and frequent lightning, probably not the best idea to be standing on a hill in the middle of nowhere when taking these photos

Cannot believe it's not raining considering the skies above. Or is it evaporating before it gets down here

Well here in Melton Mowbray, the skies darkened considerably, lots of rumbles and flashes, temp dropped from 33 to 28 in a few minutes, very strong wind and absolutely thrashed it down with rain for about 10 minutes

Now all clear.

Getting lighter to our sw so it's going to miss me and drift past to the east of me. Radar not showing that but then it didn't show the huge clouds to the east earlier on.

Probably. Cloud base is very high. We had a spell of rain this afternoon but nothing reached the ground

Lots of thunder heard around here in Newark, and aside from half a dozen large rain drops nothing else at the moment. The storm has developed nicely as it passed north east though.

Yup Sheffield shield in shred mode handling it with it's normal aplomb. To be honest the east of Sheffield looks like getting it but not me.

Heat lightning isn't a real thing. It's a misused term for lightning seen at dusk/night up to 100 miles away, when the sound of the thunder never makes it to the observer.

This is looking like fun time for me here in Scunthorpe. A load of heavy rain and lightning strikes showing up to my S now and it's heading straight for us. Getting darker outside right now as I typed this
