Starting to look a little more interesting to my south out in the channel, I can see some darkening with small cumulus clouds forming.

I'm off out with my camera, fingers crossed, hopefully I'll be on later with some nice shots if all goes well.

Yeah, I agree. It just feels right. We've had one of 'those' evenings once a year for the last few years now. You off to Mudeford?

Looks like a lenticular cloud to me :oldgood: Edit : Never Mind already been answered. Usually happens around Hilly/Mountainous areas

It’s not that hilly or mountainous where I am either. It looked amazing!

I ditched that about 18 months ago. Nothing but problems in the end! I would records lightning every day with it, no matter it's placement.

I have an Ecowitt detector now, which has been brilliant. No false positives at all.

Can we some how amalgamate the NHS with accurate detectors.

I think that that Lenticular cloud may of formed over that Cb from sheer force of the rising cloud,it's the same with pileus clouds where a Lenticular tpye forms at the top of the rising cloud.

Apparently they can form if the air comes into contact with buildings/structures as well but I believe it's most common to see them in those areas. Anyway to stop the topic from veering off. If we don't get any elevated storms today then tomorrow afternoon looks pretty good for potentially Surface Based storms based upon the forecasts I've seen.

Although I'm being selfish and talking from an IMBY perspective so I hope everyone who missed out during the last thundery spell gets some action this time

The MetO's graphics actually have new storms developing behind the cluster that is about to depart France at 11pm.

@Paul Sherman what time do you think that stuff leaving France will get to the Sussex coast as seems like it will be earlier than forecast

If that lot survives the trip that is, as others have said the plume not expected to move in until the early hours so the 2nd batch could be the ones, its a watch the radar for the next 45 minutes jobby atm

Btw we must have our own Microclimate in the Cone, its 19c here and decidedly chilly in the easterly breeze, 15c dewpoint mind you

I'm on the seafront near Bournemouth and I'm VERY confident it's going to go off. High level humidity veil incoming with cumulus growing to the south of me in the Channel.

Might move from the West Cliff to the Southbourne area or maybe Christchurch though. Looks primed to kick off just off the coast around just as it's getting dark.

Fingers crossed.

Very lively up here in the Hebrides. Been near constant storms since lunchtime today. Another large cluster developing at the moment.
