That dry wedge the West Midlands is in on the current radar frame gives me bad flashbacks to recent winters.

Thank goodness it's mostly rain this time.

A truly grotty Thursday IMBY. Cold rain for hours and hours at just sufficient intensity to soak me through when I had to go out for half an hour in late morning. Nothing like cold enough for snow here, not even a sleet-flake, so it was simply dismal and dire. Crept up to 6 °C briefly when it dried up (a bit) in early afternoon, but still a miserable day all round.

So it’s not doing anything here this morning, nice to see some places in the se having snow, wondering if and when it arrives here whether it will be snow or the more wet variety

Looking at the radar, the big band of PPN in the east appears to be pivoting slightly and slowing spreading Westwards.  Not sure where it's headed.

Will be rain for those without any meaningful elevation (>300m). Higher dew points are mixing into the system as the air 'moistens' up due to it coming off a relatively warm north sea.

Rain is steadily turning to snow in Nottingham. Most likely will turn back to rain as temps start to rise slightly.

Met Office yellow warning East Anglia for today, looks like there may be a bit of snow for the East Midlands after all, even if short lived!

Heavy snow here in Grantham, started with a snow mix about 40 mins ago but now very much in full snow. Temps dropping slightly, currently 0.6c (dropped 0.1 in last 5 mins) RH 94%.

I don't have to go anywhere today, but I am expecting an Oil delivery (... I ran out 3 days ago, yes, it is rather cold in the house right now, currently 12c at the PC here), so I'm happy with it not settling too much until that's been, then it can do what it likes!

A thin covering of snow visible on Big Moor and  the hills around Eyam this morning but nothing lying here. A few flakes just beginning to fall so we'll see what today brings.

Could soon be fed by the feed from the Irish Sea through the Cheshire gap, so watching this very carefully now.

Dry as a bone here be interesting to see how far west it gets. Very cold so feels seasonal at least.

    Yep,      Totally agree. Well spotted.

The Netweather Radar clearly shows developments in the Cheshire gap and at the same time the sleet/wet snow in the North East is moving slowly SW. Last 2 hours have seen it move from Corby to just north of Coventry.

May well be some precipitation around this afternoon. Lets hope for our first flakes of the year.

Yep  front getting a move on now.  Percipitation from the gap  however is just rain     as you say  should see a few flakes  this afternoon.

Looks like light rain now here on the leading edge of the ppn.    very light, still wondering how far that band will move across the Midlands?

I am hoping that when the 2 'systems' collide that it will enhance the precipitation.  Fingers crossed.

The 'front' to the NE is clearly high level, but the showers merging together are low level showers.
