2-4 inches depending on where it started laying... just back in from walk into Glossop coming down thickly... slushfest in glossop...  no weather warning I see

surpassed anything we had last winter...

It is starting to stick quite well now for me

Those flakes though look like they are becoming pretty wet, I'd be a tad surprised if the grass isn't more green again by the end of the afternoon

Must say - the snowfall this morning has out-foxed me a bit and possibly quite a few others too, I didn't expect it to accumulate anywhere below say 250/300m+ but that isn't the case - it's more like 150m+

Thus, a lack of a Met Office warning is notable and I think a pretty poor showing on their behalf - a large handful of routes over the Pennines in these parts I don't think will be at all passable with any ease

I would say this slushy mess we have here beats anything from the last two winters combined.

Plenty of roads around here now getting quite slow as anyone out there is having to adapt to the conditions, its fair to say we've not seen this much snow falling in a short time for a good while.

The MO seemed happy to supply me with temperatures no higher than freezing up until the early evening now - I don't agree thoughimage.thumb.png.65a6ce0e9e9dc411670af89fe92f6aa2.png

There was Always a possibility that when this front started to pivot snow was almost a certainly on its Western edge as the front moved into the cold air ECM was quite consistent on this especially over higher ground, rain getting heavier here but no sign of any wintriness yet.Temp 2.8c DP 1.7c

Turning a bit more sleety now. A covering on favoured surfaces. I'm happy with today, first covering before Xmas is a bonus. Doesn't happen all that often in this country.

Last hurrah here, as intense back edge clears through from the east... all very slushy but it's left a decent covering.

Back to huge flakes here now. Absolutely belting if down!

Quite moderate falls in last 20 mins or so and now sticking to the usual suspects cars, grassy areas, trees branches etc... does look quite wintry but I don't think traffic control will be worried about settling on the major roads.

Edit: I mean the roads down to lower areas, I see now there are issues coming through in the higher routes.

You can see its starting to cover on that traffic camera and that is a low area in Oldham where it is usually difficult to cover. If it does carry on like this most roads across oldham will be tricky for drivers to say the least. Where abouts are you ? because you've always seemed to get rough end of stick for snow in our town. I am not far from grains bar.

I think snow has already made for a better winter in Oldham than the whole of last winter.

Steady Rain now - earlier it was front edge stuff - looking at radar it's back edge with pinks clearing Sheffield.

Heads up.

Bit of a struggle to get home in all of it. And I’ve still got two more fields to go.

Some further snowy scenes - I honestly really expected virtually nothing from this, just a bit of wet snow and a slushy covering in the morning at best - but it's turned out to be a steady fall for the majority of the day so far now.

It's now stopped somewhat and behind it is a wintry sort of mix - but nice to see the accumulations and I expect a bit of snow may last on the ground into tomorrow with a bit of luck.

Not bad for day 4 (out of 90) for the Winter..

PS, yes I have checked in with the office in Leigh and they aren't able to offer similar pictures back. Sorry guys xD
