Sorry for the Cheshire snow spam but what a winter wonderland this morning. We’ve got roughly around 4-6cm in Sandbach not to be sniffed at at all considering recent Winters! The best & heaviest snowfalls are often the surprise ones! Potential Cheshire gap streamer to watch tonight too although ice likely to be the biggest hazard. Normally we don’t see our first snow till January so although no big freeze we’ve been spoilt so far. Hopefully more of the region can get in on the action in the coming days and weeks! ❄️☃️

Don't apologise, yes it is annoying when you miss out of the snow and others get it but I love seeing pics of fellow NorthWesters getting some.

...and to be fair, it's normally us watching the snow pics! haha.

Looks stunning mate.

Just had a good look, there looks to be a Cheshire Gap streamer setting up from about 8am tomorrow lasting most of the day before sleet & snow showers then switch and start coming in from the North East early hours of Thursday from around 6am.

Conditions actually look a bit more conducive tomorrow/Thurs for snow for the whole region, seems a bit more realistic for here too.

Couple of snapshots.

Just looked at the data and yes I agree with you. Certainly tomorrow evening until tomorrow night there is much better parameters. 500–1000 Thickness down to 519, T850  down to -7.2 and surface/ boundry layer temperature around or below 0. Just need precip i”which WRF doesn’t want much of.

After a partial thaw ice will be a big issue I think tonight. Estate and side roads likely to be tricky where snow has fallen. Wintry showers potentially tonight also likely to increase that ice risk even in coastal areas that have missed the snow.

Hi all

06Z Euro4 looks interesting for us Cheshire Folk, and nearby.  Possible polar low development in the Liverpool Bay area tomorrow night.

Note the very cold 500mb temp of -36C. A pre-requisite for Polar lows.  But Euro4 was very poor last night for this morning's accumulations. So we will see.....

Looks like these snow to rain events will be a reoccurring event during the next 10 days or so not complaing at least I am seeing snow just need it a bit colder for the snow to hang around longer lets hope we benefit from the SSW and get some deep cold in then the words"marginal and altitude" become a thing of the past.

I’m not sure -36 is cold enough for a proper polar low but certainly something like 29th Jan 2016 could happen. Not sure if it was the 29th  30th or 31st actually @Weather-history? but it was like a quasi polar low.

I'm sure polar lows can exist below -35C however for a much more robust low sub -40C is best

I'm not sure we'd necessarily know the true convective form of Polar Low would be on the way until maybe 4-6 hours before the event anyhow.

A slight thawing of the snow here as temps rose to 3C for a about a couple of hours. Dropped back down to 1C now though. Going to be very icy later I suspect. Good luck tonight to those of you in the south-west of the region.

I agree, subject to some pretty dramatic turnarounds in the current weather, ice is going to be a major issue, starting tonight. At the moment, it is bright and just right for a walk, but I'm not so sure the same is going to apply in an hour or two's time.

Yes sorry that was it. We had a Cheshire gap streamer first  and then that polar low the day after I think.

There's a interesting Lenticular-formation looking East from here, currently being illuminated by the setting sun.

After yesterdays 2-3 inches, we got another slight dusting overnight, although a slight thaw has happened ,there is still an inch of lying snow on gardens, paths and sideroads.Temps starting to drop again now from a 4c high today.Keeping my fingers crossed for another snowfall or two over the coming days
