I think you’re VAG car (possibly Seat Leon?) requires fuel and a trip to the dealership looking at that check engine light!

Haha, just needs a new glow plug and a visit to the fuel station. Nothing major, it can wait till payday

Well temp had stopped falling so I thought that was it but in the last half hour it’s fallen very fast again, currently 0.2°C, just about to get an air frost again.

One thing I like about living here is when there's clear skies the temp plummets here in this valley compared to surrounding areas, even more so with snow cover like tonight.

-4.3C currently & steadily dropping.

Yeah Easterlys although brilliant for Yorkshire and NE England  for the vast majority of lowland NW England away from the Peaks and Pennines (although very cold) don't deliver nowhere near as much as snow as a Northerly, NNW or polar low setup this side of the pennines. March 2013 for example was bitterly cold but relentlessly dull and dry for the vast majority of the lowland NW, early Feb 2009 delivered for the east of the region but only gave a slight covering to many west of the M6. An exception perhaps was the Feb 2018 BFTE but even then the London suburbs where I was living at the time saw more snow than many areas up here. Living down in London for 5 years you realise how continental the SE  climate (despite all the southerners moaning) is in certain scenarios with nearly every summer seeing 30c+ heatwaves and events like the BFTE making our much loved 5th Jan 2010 'snowmageddon' event look a bit small fry when I had about 20cm drifting snow in North London 10 miles from Big Ben lol!

Back to the here and now and theres lots of small features/ potential to watch over the next few days - Thursday in particular. Ice and the threat of wintry showers being the biggest risk tonight though. Where do you think are best placed for tonight's showers and Thursday's snow potential @Kasim Awan will South Cheshire fall 3rd time lucky?  I'm hoping Merseyside and the Wirral get in on the wintry potential too

Easterlies can deliver as far west as here, if they are direct and strong in strength, but only if a trough feature is embedded within. 27 Jan 1996 a good case in point, had quite a few inches.

Back to the here and now, possibility of a few wintry showers through Cheshire Gap, not sure if snow will fall. Attention then turns to the frontal/trough feature late Wednesday/early Thursday, hoping for our first snowfall of the season, we've missed out so far!

Just had a look at the GFS12z for 3am

DP -1

850s -6

Air temperature 0c

Appreciate there are other factors involved but how those showers won't fall as snow through the CG would be a mystery

It'll be very marginal. The 850-1000 thickness is often a far better guide, as it's in that lower section of the atmosphere. The blue colours are needed for any real chance of snow, with an increasing chance the deeper into the blue it is, so there's a shot but it's only just scraping into the lowest band, lower down at least.

Near the coast these lower temperatures reflect a cold inversion which would be eroded under heavy precip. This would then increase surface and expose the 150m freezing level expected given the. Now get light precip which does not erode the surface cold layer & snow is quite possibly, similarly in very heavy precip.

Oh dear, perhaps some bad news for those wanting an potential streamer and a hard frost, just looked at the sat 24 image and cloud cover is rolling in, this may stop/inhibit shower clouds from forming and probably stop temperatures from falling too low.

Yeah still looking pretty good wintry mix at first perhaps close to the coast on the GFS but snow not far inland and at the coast later on - a 1-5cm (top up for many) fingers crossed. 18z looks more fragmented in nature to my eye than the 12z did though.
