In heavier precipitation that isn’t drizzle it is wet snow now.... but I say heavier it’s just beyond drizzle... but it is snowflakes... 0c

After watching the lamppost deliver nothing but drizzle (thanks to the South East rain shadow) we now have heavier ppn as it has pivoted and snow ✌️

Now a bit heavier and proper snow but as precipitation ending in next 20 minutes not going to settle... maybe with clearing skies and possibly ice/frost ground will be cold enough to lay tomorrow if precipitation is of snow tomorrow ... ps the lamppost says snowflakes ❄️

Even if we don't get any proper snow tonight or tomorrow I think we're in the game for a while with possible surprises popping up at short notice. I've noticed any mild weather keeps getting pushed further back. Yesterday most weather apps was showing a max temp of 7C for next Tuesday but now today this has gone down to 3C. So the models are underestimating the reluctance of the cold to step aside & let the Atlantic come through. It's staying cold for the foreseeable.

Had this current spell come a month, two, even three months further into the season, wouldn't have same degree of marginality. Snow certainly. Alas it is early in the season, and shame no cold pool developed ahead of it.

Hey all. Good to be back for the winter snow chasing fun. Happy to report after hours of rain we finally have snow. Yay.

Been snowing moderately since about 9PM, and a covering now on all surfaces.

Not a bad start to winter, and especially given there is allegedly no cold air around

Yes. Good to see that this was predicted last week by the models. Delivered to a certain extent in all the favoured areas.

A few miles down the road...zilch.  fingers crossed we scrape a bit of sleet later on today before it turns back to rain

Met office app has upgraded the prospects a little.

One of the cases we just missed out I feel, too far west and south it seems on both cases, precipitation fizzled as it moved in from east, only to then pivot away to the NW. Just checked radar and we were on the very southern margin of the snow that I suspect has left a good cover north half of county.

It will be interesting to see what the band incoming from the east will produce when it arrives here as we already have a covering

A bit of snow on the tops here this morning above the 350m level but the 'good stuff' is mostly around the usual Kinder/Bleaklow area, not much has settled further south past the Goyt aside from a dusting on the Cat & Fiddle summit that was reported in the early hours. Hopefully past midday the orientation of the precip-band to the East works in our favor as it pivots.

2cms of snow in Penrith this morning with 5cms plus above 200 meters.

Strangely the radar only ever showed sleet?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
