The Peak District is home to a wide variety of magnificent hills, moors, outcrops and gritstone edges.

Quite wintry five days ahead with sleet snow freezing fog, frost and ice in Peak District update... snow down to 200m overnight tomorrow too

So what's happening in the next 48hrs??

Its going west,No going East,No Going North or maybe South.

Everyone setting themselves up for disappointment

20cm for snow in London

No Snow for Low ground

I am confident of snow on low ground

Wet snow only on high ground

Icon looking good but not as good as GFS but prefer ECM because it shows the most snow.

Gutted its not going to snow

All there in the Mod thread

London can have my snow for the rest of the winter if they’ll take my Tier 3 for the same time.

Haha indeed CS. I've looked at models on meteociel and there's discrepancies between a few of them regarding the white stuff. I think it'll be a nowcast situation. But I'll be surprised if no where in our region gets a covering by the end of weekend, it will certainly be cold enough.

Of course it'll be more marginal by day but in any night time showers they should readily turn more wintry not just on high ground. I'm glad to be discussing this now as it's pretty rare in this country to be snow hunting before the winter solstice. It's good we're in with a shout now and not waiting until February as usual.

Wet sleety mix in the heaviest showers is the height of my expectations, but still a good start to winter.

3.5c with light to moderate rain here with not even a hint of sleet.

Now that really was a winter to remember or forget depending on your viewpoint on extreme cold and snow! Thanks for the reminder Day 10.

I was the right age to enjoy it.

Cold rain at present, fells are shrouded in low cloud so can't see where the snow line is. Expect it to be about 500 metres..

Slushy covering on Kirkstone pass so sounds about right.

Hi Mate

Apart from the highest ground no wintry PPN was forecast for today Any wintry PPN will be in the overnight tomorrow morning period Manchester Airport still indicates a wintry mix during that period.

Hi mate,

I agree entirely, nothing forecast for daytime today. Looking like a bit of a messy wintry mix at best for low ground and Western parts of the region especially overnight and tomorrow. It will just be nice to see some flakes falling if nothing else. Nice to see the mention of snow on the airport forecast anyway.

Power of evaporative cooling - precipitation moderate only and sleety snowflakes, far too wet any settling, but anything heavier then a chance of light cover. Tonight and early morning more optimal time.

BTW, did anyone else notice the name Ridley Scott on the credits, as I think "designer".  Could it be that Ridley Scott?  He was born in 1937.  He must have started his career somewhere.

Main interest looks this evening maybe 21:00 to the early hours. Ideal lampost watching if there was a lampost near us. Have to make do with the outhouse lightbulb.

Updated Manchester Airport forecast no longer mentions any possibility of snow tonight and tomorrow so chances of snow may be looking minimal away from higher ground now. Even the warnings for Scotland state that the snow will likely turn to rain below 500m up there as time progresses tonight/tomorrow due to milder air from the East! Don't normally expect that in winter!
