Gone cloudy now

Hello.  Haven't seen you on the forum for a long time! Yes it's gone cloudy here as well (it would do, considering we're only about 5 miles away from each other).

Was looking forward to a final niceish day under this ridge, as forecasted by the BBC.

Instead it's overcast and showery.

Cloudy here but no rain (yet...)

Currently off work for 2 weeks, Tuesday was glorious weatherwise, daughter and I decided to have a drive out, ended up having tea in Rhyl.  Managed to catch the sun setting over the Orme, Llandudno.  Been very pleasant today, threat of rain earlier, garden thermometer max at 12°.

It's one of my pet hates of forecasters using the term "a ridge of high pressure" incorrectly and Susan Powell really took the biscuit when she said along the lines of "you would not believe there is a ridge of high pressure here given its low pressure dominating the weather chart" - well maybe that's because there is no ridge whatsoever, it's just gaps between frontal systems which you get in low pressure systems which means clearer weather but the atmosphere is unstable enough for showery weather to form.

A ridge of high pressure is when pressure actually rises and is of a ridge shape which kills of instability and it usually transient in nature(e.g a one day wonder) and you usually get this following a northerly flow.

I'm much more of a spring/summer fan myself, only really get interested in winter if we get stormy weather or snow. Otherwise it's quite boring really.

How can winter be boring?  Hours of lamp post watching, waiting for that first flake to flutter down.  I hope l get to see one this season.  Snowflake not lamp post.

Eh up welcome back another silly season upon us let's hope for one decent snow event that the whole region can enjoy. My gut feeling is still a front loaded winter.

Yes hopefully better than last Winter, if you can call it Winter haha. Just a brief light covering one morning. Ok better than nothing at all but certainly up there with the worst I've lived through. 2013-14 was similar. For me I think that Winter was actually more disappointing though given the previous one was good. Hopes were high of a repeat.

only snow I had was on 10th Feb, strange day Atlantic air rain turned to heavy snow and gave complete white out! 2pm too, but soon thawed and all gone by morning

Yeah but it's usually just day after day of 8 or 9C and cloudy skies and drizzle. It gets pretty boring tbh.

Last winter was exactly like that for me East Lancs.  I remember calling it grimter.  Had a dusting of snow 14th Dec, it melted immediately.  Had a couple of days where the surrounding hills were white over, then on 26th Feb had a bit of snow in the early hours, managed to put a few footprints in the slush before it melted.  The rest of it was grey and grim.  I would like to think that we are in for a snowy winter this time, cheer us all up.
