There are frequent small flashes of lightning and every now and then a really bright one with audible thunder

Storm moving away now, still flashing away and rumbling. Epic storm, probably the best I have seen in 30 years or so.

Thunder getting more frequent now. Also looks like more storms developing to the north of Shrewsbury. Long way from here but you never know.

Woke up with that last rumble of thunder...a few flashes of lighting but radar shows it splitting a little with most of the action over to the hilly east...some more activity back building on the southern end of the cluster

WeIl, what an absolute belter of a storm that was last night. Looked out the window at around 22:00 to see almost constant flashes on the horizon providing an amazing light show as the storm approached. The lightning was incredible throughout. I saw several forks during the peak of the storm, including a massive cloud to ground strike nearby. The thunder was also incredible, several rounds like cannons going off close by which shook the ground, house, everything. The last time I remember thunder like that was around the late 80s, early 90s when I lived in the Midlands. Eventually cleared away around 1:30/2:00.

Yes didn't quite get the firework show in our locality that places south of Manchester and to the east received. Just seen a weather-watchers picture from Saddleworth on BBC breakfast and decent fork lightning over the tops of the moorlands.  The sheep would have been impressed.

Today?...who knows it's all up in the air.

Last night was special and I ended up going to bed late again but it was worth it. The rolling thunder and fork lightning were something else. Definately an elevated storm.

However, looking at the various models today, I get the feeling that our thundery week is cut short. Most of the activity looks reserved for Wales, the Mids and the south for the next few days as higher pressure from the north extends its influence to our region . The slack low pressure system from France and the south looks like coming back over us by the end of the weekend so hopefully a return of the thunderstorms too but Sunday is too far away to be confident about.

Let's hope that the weather turns out more exciting than the models currently suggest.

An elevated shower is trying to form just north of Manchester. It is slowly moving northwards.

The Afternoon of the best storm this century and what a storm it was.i would imagine the same areas as last night will be most at risk later this afternoon and evening however to get a repeat would be highly unlikely a bit like the severe cold of 2010 a once in a decade event I will wait with much interest to see what mother nature can produce later but after last night wont be to disappointed if things don't go to plan.

The updated euro 4 shows an isolated downpour in Cumbria for this evening and nothing else for the rest of the region.  Then for Thursday and Friday it has no precipitation over us at all.
