A short burst of heat tomorrow before it get's quickly moved on by fresher air. But tentative signs of further proper warmth towards the end of the coming week. But still far off to be of absolute certainty. Could August make up for the poor Summer so far?

Let’s hope so Frost Hollow but I’m not putting my money on it.

I have people from the far south, hayle & St. Ives on snapchat. They’ve had loads of good days this summer. They’re always on the beach or swimming

20C in cornwall with the sun fees like 30C here. Their sun is so strong.

Yes and humidity is higher down in the SW which makes it feel warmer. It’s also a beautiful area with loads of palm trees which makes it feel like you’re abroad.

My nephew lives in Truro and says it's often raining. I think anywhere in the west is prone to more unsettled weather. On average the best places for sun & warmth are London, Essex, Sussex, Kent, East Anglia. Basically the SE corner.

Not sure about that. The SE is definitely warmer and drier but I have a feeling the SW is sunnier. It certainly was very sunny when I went to St Ives and Paignton (South Devon) on holiday. The English riveria has a very nice climate with loads of warmth and sunshine and are protected from heavy rain by the Devon moors.

Absolute cloudless sky in all directions, garden thermometer which has been in the shade all morning is 28°.  Sadly I'm off to work in half an hour till 7p.m.  Enjoy your day, it's summer for a few more hours.

That's just one small area though. Not the region as a whole. If you look at the Met Office climate maps the SE is drier (and sunnier) than the SW.

Guess it’s all them palm trees and gorgeous beaches then. They give off a summer vibe and make you feel like you’re in another country. When I think of Devon and Cornwall I think of warm sunny weather.

Much warmer than forecast here currently 32.6C

PS you don't need to travel to the southwest to get that exotic plants vibe.. we have it here in Wirral.

WoW looks like something you'd see in The Eden Project! (which I have visited btw).

Does the wirral have a similar climate to SW England? ie very mild in winter, cool in summer, rarely get frost or snow?

Come to think of it, I've seen the odd palm tree in peoples gardens round here but they are probably the hardy type that can withstand cold as even in the mildest winters we still get a little bit of frost and snow.

Band of rain that is running along the welsh border will start to hit the region soon. Unlikely to hit us here on the East border, but Liverpool etc could be in for some showers, no lightning yet from it but given the heat its bound to happen at some point.

Not as mild as the southwest, but frosts and snow are infrequent.. in fact on one of the sheltered community gardens near me there was neither (air) frost nor Snow last winter with a absolute minimum of just over +1C all winter. Though it very much varies even in this small peninsula.

Our summers in general warmer than the southwest and generally slightly warmer and drier than to the east of here due to the Welsh mountains.

It's an interesting little microclimate but not good in terms of winter weather

Got up to 30C here and I'm in a semi rural area. So you can add a few more degrees to that in more urban Greater Manchester. Cooler air mass on the way as winds start to come in from the W/NW from around 6pm.

Medium and high level cloud amounts increasing.

I think it was the 24th June, we last had sunshine amounts of at least 12 hours for the day

Cloud amounts increasing here to at least managed to break the 30c barrier

They are elevated showers and they are moving too fast sadly. This limits the chance to develop into thunderstorms.

Really? Oh no, I want a thunderstorm but the chance is slim.

Don't worry you will manage to have your barbaque

Up to 32c here in S Cheshire sunshine going hazy but have missed the showers as yet. Would have preferred a week long spell of 25-27c temperatures but beggars can’t be choosers this summer.

Not sure what the speed of the showers moving has got to do it with, it is whether the atmospheric conditions support thunderstorm development such as dewpoint, CAP etc and other factors.

Conditions don't seem favourable from what I have been reading from convective forecasts.

Fully clouded in here now. I doubt we'll see anything other than a few light showers this evening. May be the odd rumble of thunder but can't see anything more significant occuring. Timing of the trough was perfect this time, just missing other vital ingredients for storms to develop.
