Absolutely filthy day here, esspecially considering its July. 14°C max, 28 mm of rain and wall to wall cloud. The weekend doesn't look much better, just a bit warmer. This summer is so bad it doesn't feel like summer at all, it's like October or November.

Grim Friday don't have a rain gauge but distinctly Marty Pellow today (Wet wet wet!)

One month into meteorological summer and so far it's made up for a particularly dry spring. Often seems to be the way of things where April & May are relatively reliable and pretty good, only to go downhill in either June or July...

To think there was talk of drought orders on Windermere....

Hard to see what all of the fuss is about here. Really seems like it's a different world 30 miles up the road?

It hasn't been high summer by any stretch of the imagination but it hasn't rained that much at all over the past few days.

Similar here. Very wet on Monday but not much accumulation since then. It has been unremittingly overcast and distinctly chilly though. Personally I'd prefer heavy rain with sun in between

Complete flip here. Rain almost all day yesterday and its raining again today.  Garden is green again and the lawn is back to its winter state of being under water.

Out on my regular cycle rides, and in the last week a few of them have felt, quite autumnal......After the glorious spring, it's payback time. Rain I can tolerate, but the strong winds  just make cycling pretty grim.

Some rain data from the SW corner of the Bowland Fells.  We've been voluntary rainfall observers for the Met Office here since 1968. Same site throughout. 167m asl. We use a manual Snowdon gauge and for our own extra interest we watch a clockwork Dines tipper. There's also a wireless linked automatic gauge sending data to the EA.

Indeed it was very wet yesterday. Rained steadily all the time, apart from a drizzly lull in the evening.

Total from 9GMT on Friday morning (3rd) to 9GMT today (4th) was 57.9 mm. Previous 24hrs we had 23.6 mm.

Not the wettest day this year though. That was 59.6 mm on Feb 8th, storm Ciara. That was the start of a swilling wet spell until the tap was turned off in mid March.

BTW total for June this year was 194.5 mm. Far above the long term average of 100.8 mm.

The worst thing about this persistent damp weather is that it's also making my house damp. 79% humidity in the bedroom this morning!

The only good thing about this weather is hopefully it will put some folk off going to the pubs.

Often happens, minute hosepipe bans and drought orders considered, heavens open.

Another woeful drab day. Think we've had about 2 hours of sunshine since last Saturday, competing with sunless weeks of mid winter.

Something that went under the radar, wettest June 24 hrs on record fell last Saturday - Sunday, Honister over 210mm of rain.

It may be very windy but for only the second time in over a week, the rain and drizzle has stopped and the sun is out.

I appreciate that others have had better conditions than me but I cannot remember a summer period with as much continuous filth as the last seven days.

the long dry spring seems a lifetime ago now and conditions under foot are back to being as bad as they were at the end of winter so hopefully a period of dry will follow although I’m not expecting it.

Currently 13°C and blowing a gale outside. Bloody freezing. Never known a July as cold, cloudy, wet and miserable as this one. Having a warm bowl of soup for lunch.

Cheerful day of sunny spells and fast moving scattered showers.

Some heavier showers are possible later this afternoon or early evening.

Turned into a decent late Autumn type day now, shame it’s early Summer.

The sun is in and out here. It's been dry since about 9am but there are showers further west on the horizon.

Mainly dry and sunny since lunchtime but we’re in the middle of a heavy shower again now.
