Thunder has been rolling around for the last hour or so here, now getting louder and lightning visible. Cell seems to have exploded into life around Crewe.

Yes, huge storm here in Crewe since 6pm and still raining + thunder an hour later. I imagine there will be some flooding issues. Appears to be moving north or north west, so Northwich, Winsford, perhaps even Chester may be in the firing line.

Weve had, much to my surprise some decent local thunderstorms in the last few days.. sadly none overhead but they tended to be in other places, due to esky sea breezes. However one a few nights ago gave a great display as a rumbled through Liverpool.

It looks like the same might happen tonight.. though any activity will likely die out before it reaches here (due to that seabreeze),  there might be something worth watching out towards Liverpool or N Wales way, provided it can keep its formation, which it is struggling to do at the moment.

There is a chance that the convergence line may produce some storms overhead, as were on the line between the NWly and SEly wind direction.

Another warm day here. Plenty of sunshine this afternoon and feeling very warm with a high of around 21°. Now currently overcast and 19° with around 70% humidity.  No rain or storms.  Just checked the radar and there is nothing north of Manchester. Looks to be the same places  getting the storms – there is currently a big storm around the Sheffield/Nottingham area.

Tomorrow is forecast to be raining for most of the day with highs of only 15°.

Radar certainly more interesting now here in the east of the region. Lovely looking storms about to cross the Pennines. Hopefully they'll keep they're intensity.

Evening Stephen ,

I thought our best chance would be this evening as the sea breeze dies down. Still 22c here at the moment. We must have been a touch luckier than you on this side of the  Wirral as we've had a couple of overhead storms including the epic one on Saturday. Yesterday's storm struck a house in Thingwall setting the roof on fire.

I saw that but I wondered if it was actually lightning in reality. as the nearest strike came up as near Prenton and Newton near West Kirby. There was some thunder around yesterday. But yes on the west side of Wirral weve generally not been so lucky in terms of overhead storms. Maybe it will change tonight. It's currently 20C with a dewpoint of 15C

The ingredients are there so here's hoping those storms hold together.

the radar shows those storms are dying as they get near Chester/Wirral, Im not sure whether they will reinvigorate later, but they don't currently have the legs to get over the Cheshire Plain. The storms themselves are not long lasting, they seem to be relying on orographic forcing. Lowland areas near the coast may not be so lucky this time.

Now hearing big rumbles. Looks very dark over the Pennines.

Storm has been rumbling on for a good couple of hours here, now seems to have eased away to the NW. Not a bad effort. Saw plenty of lightning. Not as good as the offering on Saturday and Monday, but reasonably decent nonetheless. Looks like this may be our last lot for a while now, but what a few days it has been.

Its all hitting a brick wall at the end of the Wirral and fading away.

Just now, Shaun L said:

if you run the animation you can see the storms rely on a) an offshore wind, and b) some type of topography.

You have storms exploding into life over the pennines, then becoming very inactive, and then when the storms come into some topograhy (like the storms currently raging over the mid Cheshire ridge, around Helsby), they spark into life, but as soon as they come onto the coastal plain, they die altogether. It's quite normal for this to happen, even in situation with better ingredients than today.

Just had a single rumble on Saturday night and had a decent storm last night around 10 pm but it’s clear I’ve had nowhere near as much thundery activity as places like Liverpool and Cheshire have. Still, at least I haven’t missed out completely.  Some places such as the east coast have had no storms and have been stuck under fog for the last few days.
