That cell near Salisbury must’ve rapidly expanded as it didn’t look much not long ago but now looks like this

If you have the Net Weather radar run it from 20.30 to see how quickly things developed!

Wow John, thank you.

Rain easing now, lawn is flooded, several inches of water on the patio and pathways. God knows what’s in my gauge.

Very interesting how it went from no lightning to when I counted 15 flashes in 3 minutes then it eased back to only 3 more in the last 25 minutes! I can only guess at nocturnal cooling allied to the storm generating as it came off Salisbury Plain.

It’s got to be down to the current situation especially with the lack of aircraft observation.s or something with less data being available. Incredible how on Sunday, less than 48 hours away, things were still looking amazing for the SE but then suddenly on Monday it all started to disappear and move further north and west like it has done.

Plenty of planes in the air now. It is just a very fluid situation with a slack low pressure system and very light winds meaning where sea breezes and other convergence zones occur the storms will fire.

Beautiful view of it from here Andy. Lovely structure with little cloud surrounding it.

Hopefully we get a nice juicy plume event this year with some imported elevated storms from France to make up for this loss over here (unless we get something on Wednesday/Thursday) Those are my favourite types of events and most favourable for London/SE. The last good storm I remember was from 2018 when funnily enough it was a similar setup to a week ago with low pressure in the bay of biscay however activity was much further south than this time

Strong N inflow into the storm here in Chapmanslade about 2 miles west of the main cell. As with the earlier storm it collapsed and rained out very suddenly although a smaller outflow cell is springing up to the south east

@Andy Bown Looks like it's intensified again on the eastern edge.

New cells developing near/over London heading NW?

Can see the one over High Wycombe from here. Grown quite substantially in the last 20 minutes. Guess it's nocturnal cooling taking effect.

The N Sea mizzle has been blowing here now for the last couple of hours - the last sunshine was around 5pm. But wait, there is a brave little storm near Horncastle fighting the cold N Sea air and making a valiant attempt to head North towards Hull, rather than joining its friends further West. Remember the little storm that did all those years ago?

Well I was well and truly in the sweet spot this evening in Ely - Cambridgeshire, with the convergence line storms pretty much firing up directly overhead. We had torrential bursts of rain and thunder followed by another round and finishing with one mega storm with thunder every other minute and overhead fork lightning. The best home storm I’ve had for probably a year or more. Same again tomorrow please?

Flashing and booming away in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent now. I make that the 6th day of thunder and lighting so far this year, with 5 in the past week. Not bad!

Have these two storms split up? And am I right in thinking ones going North and ones going West?

More likely the outflow from the main storm triggered a daughter cell

Horncastle storm appears to have a 'flying eagle' shape to it now!

Bets are it'll probs come to nothing as lightning seems to not be much. Might just end up as a heavy shower

Yes shame it hasn't managed to hold together now that it's dark enough to see distant lightning
