I wouldn't normally post a Weather for the Week Ahead video in here, but here's Tomasz's take on what should be quite a convective one:

There are some parts of the UK which have had more rain this month than the whole of spring and there are further showers and thunderstorms to come in the week ahead.

Shan’t bother with the BBC weather this week, I’ll stick with the experts

Two from earlier on, the first looking to the west at the Macclesfield cell, the second is looking towards Chesterfield/Derby way.

Absolute deluge here, seen loads of IC flashes but no CG, still a nice storm and the first of the year!

How on earth has Stoke on Trent avoided these storms today - Madness seems to be something going on with the Penines killing them as someone else has said further up

Nothing to do with the Pennines, it's me and my shield

For those around Stoke, it's ok as I now up near Lymm in the hope something kicks off in similar areas to yesterday.

Heavy convective drops. Almost looks like when sleet is close to turning to wet snow.

Just had the same - only lasted 5 minutes or so

Looks like it's trying to attempt a very small anvil too. (Looking South towards Hanley direction)

Made the call to drive back home earlier so I'm back now with the storm on the doorstep - people on the southern fringes of Sheffield already reporting thunder. What a lovely day!

Ideal if this clears north and gives us some more lightning after dark, but that might be asking for too much.

My sincere apologies. As I said though, I am up towards Lynn now so that should bolster your storm chances in the next few hours. No chance around Manchester/Warrington now though

Anyone in the Derby/Belper area, you can send my thank you cards in the post

Possibly more cells now building behind this one, looks like this one has split with one core slightly west of here and one to the east.

I am really happy with how this turned out, I am sad I had to end it quick but lets just say my cut out hole in a CO-OP bag really helped save my camera when it started pouring it down, I hope I see more action tonight and can compile a long video of time-lapses I have got, still trying to figure out the right settings to photograph lightning, I am very new with photography, also can anyone help me figure out what that lowering was, I assumed it was some sort of scud as it associated with all that down draft, please correct me if I am wrong.

It’s the sea breeze killing off any convection round here buddy. A tower shot up over Peterborough earlier, developed a small core of precip, and then the updraft was soon cut off and got the better of by that nagging NE’ly sea breeze.

Hoping it’s presence wanes tomorrow, so we can have a decent build up of CAPE to build the CB’s higher.
