Beautiful storm structure across East London. Some mean thunder, plus a couple of missed strikes.

This is probably just a weird skud but....

IMG_20200606_193943888.thumb.jpg.4d294397ca421824c30156ccd6b6b227.jpgIMG_20200606_194157366.thumb.jpg.5b5deb0ae49e9305762edb75b3adcb63.jpg

2nd pic was taken about 2 mins after the first and it vanished into nothing about 30 seconds or so later.

Also some nice looking lenticular'ish' clouds in the distance.

Aaanddd it's liveeeee!!!!!

Skip to 12:17 for the main action.

Unfortunately the camera didn't pick up as much lightning as I thought it would.

Thanks for uploading the vid. Glad you got some action, but I don’t think that was an intense thunderstorm, sorry

Haha. The 'intense' part was meant mainly for the rain, not the lightning

Another shower right now, this one from the NNE and not that heavy. I reckon we've had less than 5 mins sunshine all day and I was hoping that being near the low centre would be an advantage   Glad you guys down South did rather well from an unusual set-up in June but it has been interesting watching the wind direction change throughout the day so some compensation at least.

Here's to looking forward to a thundery summer - not a bad start IMHO.

Really clearing up here now, Bright sunshine and the sky looks full of weird almost teardrop/wavy shaped smooth looking lenticular'ish' clouds.  They are also very flat   Looks like the show's over for me for the time being

Well I got treated to a spectacular distant light show in the North Sea yesterday night, could today perhaps deliver another day where I see more lightning? :oldlaugh:

Yes. A LOT of lightning.

Probably one of the last storms of the day up here, looking West towards Crewe/Nantwich direction.  Camera phone doesn't really pick it up but it has a nice orange internal looking glow in some patches, guessing there's some people over there seeing a nice Zero Order optics effect.

And a beautiful cloud shadowed sunset to end it.

Have to say, I thought today was a bit of a right-off for this location, caught just North of the squall line, copping persistent drizzle and zero lightning. But this evening it briefly went very dark, I looked out and saw low swirling scud coming over. As this cloud moved over it quickly formed into a rotating funnel - here's a pic as it moved away...

And here's a couple of earlier pics of Mammatus on the back edge of the South Essex squall line:

When you said 'this evening' did you mean around 40 minutes ago? Because I thought I saw a suspicious lowering in the distance to my SE!
