Storms and Convective discussion - 1st June 2020onwards

Fingers crossed for today Supacell. So far we've had about 3 raindrops over the last few days around here, so I'm sure the rain-shield will once again send everything to the west and east of here again, like with yesterday's showers 

Flicking through GFS and ECM this morning is interesting for potential going into next weekend. ECM does the unthinkable and sends an MCS directly westwards out of Benelux, taking it across most of southern England! So yeah, I doubt that'd ever happen in reality

Well I got treated to a spectacular distant light show in the North Sea yesterday night, could today perhaps deliver another day where I see more lightning?

It has happened before, back in May in one of the years of the 1990’s I believe, and unexpectedly too! Rare, but spectacular. 

Could be another day of beautiful cloudscapes, with CB’s and anvils once this front gets gone.

I can confirm the sun is making an appearance and there is blue sky about. Ready to get to work and get that ground heated up! 

Number 25 is probably the one I’m on about on that site. A very unusual direction up from the ESE onto the Suffolk and Essex coasts and then finishing up in Merseyside! Amazing how many we really did used to get, and shows that our selective memories were very real!

Number 26 June 94 probably the worst storm I’ve ever seen. Was in Braintree Essex outside a pub in total darkness by 19:00

My Sister lives near Lutterworth (Leics) shes just had a small but potent storm pass over,  she has shown me a video of some serious rain lashing her windows!!

Currently have this monster rolling in over me, Winds gone mental. The leylandii in the neighbours gardens almost at a 45 degree angle!  Probably be gone in less than 5 mins though with the speed it's moving.

Aaaand It's Gone! Less that 5 mins lol, stupid heavy rain but it's so fast it barely has chance to wet the ground! (can see the next one heading in though, can see it on the bottom left corner of the shot.

That was a fantastic article, enjoyed reading it. Growing up in west London in the 80’s (I was born in 1973), I remember quite a few mega (usually nighttime) storm systems. Very rare, nowadays, so sad.

I remember that, I felt weird cause it came from the wrong direction. There was some light rain and thunder ahead of the thing, and it confused me why lightning seemed to be coming closer from the east instead of getting further away, and then all hell broke lose. I thinks the first lot was in the shelf cloud in front, cause the clouds in between looked like what I've come to know as a whales mouth. First time I'd ever seen these things.

Crapvection here with probably a minute of sunlight since dawn. Our 'low' is pretty much 50 miles or so due East of here at the mo, heading SSE.

First thunder of the year here around half an hour ago. Just one single roll to my east, but it's a start.
