My garden thermometer is still showing 25c but its definitely over reading as I think heat is still radiating out from the house wall.

It should be a lot better for much of the region tomorrow, in terms of sunshine.

I've just picked up a lightning strike!

I've been talking to a few people about the device I have and if mounted in a decent location, it is able to pick up strikes at farther distances over water.

I presume it's that storm in the channel just off the French coast. If so that's impressive :oldgood:

Lightning gives off a radio frequency at a certain range (depending on the distance)

Most common detector have mass produced chips that are programmed to pick up the frequency. You can pick them up cheap on eBay to use in a raspberry PI or something similar.

Warm rather than hot today with a sea breeze keeping the temperature down especially  during the afternoon. Reached 25.1°C, currently 20.1°C

Amazingly managed to get to 25.9C with just over an hour of sunshine at the end of the day. Just shows what could have been without all the low cloud around.

Tomorrow looks like the sunniest day and best chance to better Saturday's 30C as Wednesday/Thursday looked a bit blue-blobby on the latest Beeb.

Just been sat in the garden watching distant fairly frequent high up lightening in a mostly clear sky, looking north... looked at the radar, must be the lot in Wales. Quite a show there I guess!

How hot today then? Sunny from the off in West Wiltshire rather than waiting until late morning like yesterday and Sunday. 20c took until after 11 those last 2 days, it’s going to be there soon after 8 today!

So, here we go again... warm start after a sultry night. No wind at all here, feels surprisingly hot in the sun for 8:18 on a mid-August morning.

Local max could be anywhere in the 30-35*C range according to model forecasts.

All very dependent on how much cloud cover occurs, be that imported or homegrown. Including the big localised thunderstorm risk.

Morning All, as the temperature hit rock bottom of 17.1°C at: 04:48, lets kick the off again, currently 20.8°C and a clear cloudless start, some sea mist out in the channel as the Purbecks as almost obscured in this view, where we have some early empire builders staking their claim to the prime spots and building their castles (or rather putting up their castles!)

@Singularity when you say BIG, is that as in big or BIG as the current suggestion looks like this..

@Dorsetbred I mean BiG... ha. I should have been clearer  - low risk % of really big thunderstorms.

A ‘loaded gun’ day but with the trigger very stiff, going to take a lot of force to fire it. Specifically, a 2 m temp of at least 32*C and a bit of near surface wind convergence. Impossible to reliably predict where that will happen today - can only keep a watch on things and wonder!

Hi all, I'm heading down to your beautiful part of the country for a weekend break this week and was wondering what to expect weather wise?! Having come from the crazy 30c+ temps here in the Southeast, I'll be pleased of some refreshing sea breeze and maybe even a good storm! Would like some dry sunny weather too though! Meto currently showing a mix of showers/sun and a cool 21c!!! Does this sound about right?! Thank you!xx
