Am I missing something here ? Tonight looks like a good show is in the offing looking at the AIM Radar and with predicted clear skies could this be the season finale ? Comet and NLCs

I am hoping so and going to put in a big shift for this

Yep...with all of the uncertainness happening in America atm....i imagine that the 'uploading' is least of their priorities

I`ll stick with " should be clear tonight" Rob

How much longer have we got for NLCs ? ... i usually give up by now, lol.

Im guessing that high level sightings will go first and sightings become confined towards the horizon, is this correct?

I was just going to post paul...I think looking at the method there will be a show for tonight...looking at the midday Baltic radar returns theres some strong signals recorded....By this evening they will have migrated around to our latitudes or just past....which would result in a good show to our NW...which would be handy for the comet

I`ll be keeping an eye on the signals from the radar this afternoon....but it`s looking good at

Happy hunting Paul

Some fine white wispy NLC threads started to appear about 3.20am, managed to capture what bit I  could see, again apologies for the poor quality.

Kind of a disappointing night...the comet was not fo be seen with the naked eye imby...managed to find it eventually through a zoom camera lens

NLC`s started to appear from 3am to my NNW...low, just above the smut layer which is around 5° alltitude

Lovely bright wispy clouds....

Arms down to the 65`s in the 3 day out area.....These would give a 10° - 15 ° display if they hold position

It stayed beautifully clear all night/early hours, then started to cloud over in the NW about an hour or so ago, it's slow to clear and it's now becoming too light. Oh well, hopefully there's a few more chances before the season is out.  Did they put in an appearance?

That will be the 'Roulette effect' of the whole rotating mass of NLC`s around the pole...and whether the clouds are visible from the UK In the Evening twilights or the Morning twilights....oh and luck

It`s happened a lot this year where its cloudy in the evenings...and it becomes clearer by morning

The next couple of AIM`s will  continue to tell the story of this seasons near misses

Latest AIM for 18-07-2020...which was for Saturday nights `bust`/ Sunday mornings low display

current_daisyi18n.thumb.png.070371f941e2f3f15cc2beaa6af2e719.png

as you can see from the arm at '7 o`clock'...which had rotated past our Evenings viewing position and further around to the West

Leaving the NLC`s over Finland to rotate around from the East..into the Morning viewing position

M8..... youre premature this was last nights, released late. Previous charts were released before 9pm, last night was after 10.30.  here it is... but like you say, cloudy and there not much happening at lower latitudes .. guess unless youre up norf, times running out.

im not happy with these current daisy charts, theres plenty of activity but locked up in the north.

Ive never stuck it this long before, but am hoping for one last sighting, that though is looking unlikely now.

Agreed Rob...its looking like the cloud mass has started it`s regression...there`s always hope of one final display but in reality, I`m fearing the worst for the remainder of the season

I cant believe the seasons almost over... it goes so quickly... absolutely delighted in seeing a couple of decent displays but they only make me want more.

Looks like the mesosphere is beginning to warm up, as seen on the aim charts. Then it will be the southern hemispheres turn, although the viewings for there are not as good as ours in the Northern.  It seems to abruptly come to an end due to the cloud cover night after night throughout most of July, my own viewings for july were few.  I'll still keep an eye out for a little while, there may be that one last shout or two.
