    Latest AIM

    and Spaceweather article

NOCTILUCENT CLOUDS ARE INTENSIFYING: On May 17th, NASA's AIM spacecraft detected the first noctilucent clouds (NLCs) of summer over the north pole. Those first electric-blue smudges were barely visible. Since then, however, the clouds have rapidly intensified. Recent images from orbit show a growing bank of NLCs pinwheeling just inside the Arctic Circle:

    yes Rob....theoretically.

We are seeing an expantion of clouds on the last few AIM images, If the cloud mass holds it`s form

...with a bit of overdue luck. Tonights clear viewing may result in a good showing

Its always worth sky watching, you just never know.  June 22nd, last year whilst driving back from my daughters gig in Buxton, where there are big sky views north, I noticed a faint rippling of silvery threads, I stopped the car to view them to rule out dissipating contrails or cloud catching the reflection of the moon, my daughter took a photo of them on her phone, then they suddenly faded away.  I would love to post her photo to get confirmation, but the silvery threads are barely visible on it.  It was about 12.15am. Keep your eye out, good clear skies, you just never know.

Being out in the sun all day yesterday and after a couple of fine Ales during the evening there was no chance of me stopping up to see them. I hit the sack around 10 after watching the ISS pass and looking out for the Space rocket. Great pics Arnie as always.. And Mushy Rob always misses them as he's usually on the Red....

    • Heat ebbing and flowing as thunderstorms brew for the second half of the week

For the UK as a whole, the heat and sunshine will peak today (Sunday). But hot, humid weather will still have big a part to play next week, even as cooler, fresher air tries to move down from the northwest. And that combination could result in fireworks. Read the full update here

Weekend sunshine and heat ahead of a change next week

June has been an excellent month for sunshine and warmth so far, and we're now into another mostly dry, warm weekend that'll turn hot tomorrow. But the weather pattern is changing. Read the full update here

Analysis: Heat this weekend before a breakdown next week

A strong ridge of high pressure building in from the Azores this weekend will culminate in very warm or hot Sunday, but gradually cooling off next week and turning increasingly unsettled from mid-week. View the full blog here
