French grape juice, lol.

I was just making the point that i need to be selective about ramping up these clouds. Im disappointed that they are not more popular, so i dont want to encourage people to stop up/go out if theres next to nothing likely to show. So on TAW ill only promote an evening thats got a good chance of a decent display.

Yh agree with this

I only send alerts out to people if its showing really strong with pics coming in from Belgium, Holland, Denmark and Germany and we start getting them around 1030pm. ALL displays like this since May 31st have had a much better display at 130-330am the following morning

Pain woke me up at two had a look out there may have been a few faint clouds above the house but too faint to tell for sure.

Very faint NLCs seen from here between 11:30pm and midnight, really needed to bring out the contrast on the photo's but so-far tonight it's been slim pickings.

Nice one....as you said slim pickings last night

A difficult one to call at first.....in fact i didn`t

Here`s one from last night taken at 11pm to the NW (its the same sky....Capella)

984506432_1003.thumb.jpg.3a1f5e5be9aabbe824474716b6161665.jpg

52mm 6" @ f8.0 iso 500 + a bit of local contrast (photoscape)

I`m having the same problem. Im finding that there is a fine line between representing the image infront of you....or Art, of which we appreciate

Many a wallpaper and prints has be borrowed from the community

A challenging sweet spot to find to find on the camera

Where just going to have to crack the 3 dayout forecast

( win some more beer of Mr Sherman)

it was ok last season when we had the AIM`s by tea time

But there coming in later than the first European sightings

Yep I am a few beers down

Have tipped off the Canadian guys for tonight seeing as the big display we had Sunday into Monday should have gone around the clock to them by now.

Still trying to work out the DAISY Clock. I wonder if its 1.5 turns per day eg 4 days would be the 12 o clock  position. I just dont know tbh

Looking at the 21st Image though you would think its gunna be quiet for a few more days yet as nothing is spiking around the 11-1 position really

Latest Aim for 21-06-2020 (for Sunday nights showing)

21j.thumb.png.595a266b65200e8d405a351c7cd08198.png

looks like there a lot of defragmentation around the 1 o`clock area with individual NLC`s floating around at lower latitudes.....Could be some small sightings for tonight

As you can see 3 days out (11 0`clock) is a deterioration down to the core ....and like last night`s, some bigger banks of of individual clouds at lower latitudes......So a similar forecast to last night for tonight/ morning

Hold the front Page

Since the Marrsy radar  has gone down Ive been keeping an eye on the Oswin radar...of which to me. there seems to be a correlation between a strong signal and NLC sightings......Having said that the more i read about the Oswin radar the less i understand

Copyright only allows me to link to the page......but check out the Oswin signal

Edit;  It could be that one of the bigger banks of of individual clouds has slid down to a lower latitude and is passing over the radar now

Its` all about the way the NLC`s migrate around the pole....Nasa beleive  to complete 1 circuit of the pole...  ie 360° takes 5 days

We know that the NLC`s travel from East to West which means that the clouds migrate in a clockwise direction around the pole

Which 1 day of migration around the pole would be equal to 72° travel

Which if were a clockface.....Then this would be equal to 12 mins per day

So effectively or roughly 2.5 bit of the clock per day. So 2 days ago would have been 1 oclock and 3 days ago 10 and a half etc etc

Roughly yes.....I f you can imagine yesterdays AIM under this clockface ( remember its 12mins a day clockwise migration)

Last try this morning at 2.30am, which was just before Nautical twilight.......

Allthough Capella and Menkallnan were shining brightly... no NCL`s visible from here

266993461_3009.thumb.jpg.aa992a6407a3ca563a1191b874fde5b9.jpg

a few sightings from Europe this morning of faint, low alltitude NCL`s

The first 4° of our view is the smut level which they may have been behind

As for tonight....I wont be calling any watch parties

but im encouraged by the upcoming density of the cloud

Oh for a clear night on Fri/ Sat

Nice early one tonight....latest AIM 24-06-2020... although the arms that were present 3 days out have regressed back to higher latitudes,  It has left  a strong bulk at the core......  Looks good for some low altitude sightings....  and theres signals on the radar

24j.thumb.png.4a73c84d06f5861d2c053ff0f35d6c58.png
