Firstly a big THANK YOU to @Arnie Pie whos research into the daisy charts means that we have a method of predicting seeing them...

My best over Derby, my lad has better pics on his superior phone! lol

What an incredible display last night. Annoyed that I didn't stay up until the half 2 that they returned but still got some very good shots at that 11pm!

My second shot of the night, this time from across Hanningfield Reservoir, somewhere between 2 and 3am. Didn't look as bright to me as the earlier showing but seemed much wider across the horizon - I was running on fumes by then though. Yes big thanks to @Arnie Pie for keeping us all updated.

Lol I was going to go to the road that cuts across Hanningfield Reservoir to the South looking north so we might have been 2 lonely cars snapping away but went for the closer option.

Great Shot Dan

I like the reflections in this one below as well - Seems SE Essex was well placed for this event being so far south at 50.8N

Nice work mate. I couldn't really get any reflections I was happy with. That was the quietest I've ever know that East-West road along the reservoir, well that is apart from the geese who did their best to scare the **** out of me every 30 seconds.

I've only ever seen them poking out from behind the roofs to the N/NNE. When I looked out of the windows on the WSW side of the house last night (it's orientated longwise NNW/SSE, so the houses lining the road are perfectly positioned to almost completely block the view )  I just dismissed it as I thought it was a contrail, as that's the same orientation and direction I see contrails heading towards/coming from Chester Airport  . Oh well, maybe there'll be more tonight

I was assuming the West/NorthWest line was a contrail too as from here it seemed to be more solid in structure and away from the the other NLCs during that time in the evening (around half 11 it set behind the hill), I decided to take a quick snap beforehand just to be sure it wasn't a contrail or some high-Cirrus at a 2s exposure which brought out more details and confirmed that it was indeed a NLC.

Did a quick 2 min video and sped it up so people can see what these clouds look like in real life without the use of long exposures n such.

This was from the first batch of these clouds just after sunset.

Yeah, I was also surprised to see that one sticking out so far to the west! It was definitely an NLC indeed, as it was way too late and dark for a contrail to be lit up for that long

It was certainly an NLC..... We saw it in Derby, someone from Devon posted an almost identical shot of it, so it must have been very high.

It mreged in, almost, to a western(nw) patch of them that illuminated as the first ones just East of North declined.

Aha, add me to the list of those that spotted that Western NLC! I too dismissed it as not being a NLC at the time, it was quite faint and hard to make out from my perspective. The shape I witnessed matches the pictures people have posted though so I am now confident we were probably looking at the same thing.

The way things are going I'm going to need an hour of exercises to get me moving in the morning.
