We were so lucky to get a clearance in the cloud cover as the display started.

Cracking photo bye the way...you can see the same local clouds in your image as i was looking at but from a different anglethese local clouds made for some strange cloud paterns...Looks like a Banksy to me.....especially after a couple of rums

Thanks! When I upgraded my phone, I specifically got one with a good low light camera, so I could take noctilucent cloud pics.

There was definitely some striking cloud formations- one looked like an eye, whilst there was a face in the noctilucents! Ain't paradolia great!

Not a great view this morning, too much wispy lower cloud being a tease.

Wispy

1393892414_24001.thumb.jpg.3608fb5482a0b2d08a6b9eb027d71afc.jpg

Yep...A bit of a frustrating night/ morning for the UK....apart from a faint early showing to the NNW in the evening...

1167314969_3007.thumb.jpg.5b8fc699130de06316de682d3fac9f2b.jpg.

Once the cloud moved in and we lost site of the stars...game over

Although looking at the photo`s from northern Europe there was obviously a large display taking place

Around nautical twilight time around 2.45am when the morning light starts encroaching it begins to get very tempting...and has caught me out a few times.....rule of thumb. no stars no NLC`s

1183173789_1470.thumb.jpg.e98413f291eff3a0f807686d1636c233.jpg

963475954_1938.thumb.jpg.285e3e8fb0ba36bf53c59f80285e36ac.jpg

then throw some wispy lower cloud into the mix and it does make for a very inconclusive images (Fools Gold)

So frustrating... but happy that there was a good display for some

Another cloudy night forcast..but the radars are still indicating strong signals......so im sure our time will come again

Norway radar 70° latitude..

I woke up briefly about 2.45am, had a look out my bedroom window and saw a small glimpse of what l thought were NLCs, my view is obscured by buildings, so I only have a small patch of sky with northerly views. Tempted as l was to jump in the car to go to my vantage point, I didn't as my alarm goes off at 5.45 for work.  I have managed to book next week off, so I'm hoping for a chance to catch  a morning show then.  I just wish my house was that few feet taller.

It will happen one day Rob.. The only time I have seen them over the years are during unplanned trips to the throne half asleep and remembered to take a look.

It was a strange one in Birmingham this morning I witnessed a set clouds that i have never seen before

Firstly the speed at which they appeared the disappeared 13 Mins
They came out of a clear sky ( stars were visible)
Clear on SAT radar over the Midlands at the time
They appeared to be travelling Southwards ( so not like any NLC`s that i know about )

There was some chat in the facebook forum about what was being picked by the OSWIN radars, which is within a few degrees latitude of Birmingham

Opinions Welcome

 timelapse
13 mins over 27"
28mm 4".....4" @ f5.6  ISO 320 ( No visual enhancements)
