I'm coming back because my last storm wasn't really over head and it was probably my only storm.

Jeeze the British weather is making me miss living in Africa, When storms are forecast there you get them, Big ones that can last for 6 hours or more. Its also not cold for over half the year which is very nice. If this bloody virus hadn't happened i would be back down there now waiting for the rainy season to start.

Going by the rough trend of the GFS, the activity is expected to die down exactly when my 4-day weekend starts.  Then it starts up again on the 25-26 June only to die down again before my next 2 days off.

A baby storm out of nowhere, a few flashes and few rumbles but a storm is a storm and gets me outta here finally!

I always thought the south coast was good for stuff coming across from France?

If everything they had over northern France made it here the south coast we'd probably see more storms than inland areas do over the year. Unfortunately the opposite is true and we hardly see anything

That’s true, and when they do it’s always dark and elevated so theres never any visible structure Unlike surface based daytime storms, haven’t had one of those for at least a decade!

No that's the main problem with overnight storms, you can't see anything apart from the lightning. I did see one that arrived during the day back in 2017

I guess that's what a lot of the imports would look like if you could see them.

Such a shame that the Bournemouth one in July 2014 wasn't in the daytime. That would have been nuts!

I would have been a whole lot wetter though...

I don't mind as I could see it from about 40 miles away where I lived at the time

Still in here this morning, we've been unlucky during this spell with storms on 2 days running only about 15m to the north, but just a couple of light showers here.  We had a few random flashes/claps in the middle of Ciara in feb but I'm not calling that a thunderstorm

Well I am still here, never really left! I have got to the point that I think the last real thunderstorm I can remember was 3 years ago! This past few days I have seen some of the heaviest rain ever, it flooded my garage. But there was no thunder. Then Monday there were storms over Newport way I could hear the thunder from but saw no lightning. Yesterday was the worst. Got so excited hearing deep booms and checked the lighting maps site, constant lighting. Then the weather gods went nah you ain't having that and the storms took a more northerly direction! So yes I have heard distant thunder but nothing within 10 miles. Gutted.
