Trouble is a cool summer now in our rapidly warming climate probably wouldn’t even be that cool!

Should clarify: not necessarily cool when taking averages, but lacking any notable hot spells. Last such Summer was probably 2011 (bar a single day).

Probably in the next week or so. Norway, Sweden and even up to the arctic circle are getting 30 next week and they're much further north than us.

The list of years for 35C would be interesting.

It's a tease. Many places in lower latitudes get cold, snowy winters but what are we left with..

In 2016 35.1 was reached on Jersey on 19 July and in 2017 34.5 was reached at Heathrow on 21 June- which when rounded gives 35C.  On a technicality could we say 35C has been reached 5 years in a row therefore?  Do certain readings eg from Jersey qualify for the record books?

No Jersey is not included in records. The 13 September 2016 max high at Gravesend (34.4C) is considered the overall high for the UK that year.

However, every year from 2015 to 2019 had 34.0C or more which is unprecedented back to 1900.

To be fair, it doesn't take much now to reach 30°C thanks to a warming climate.
