"Astronomy fans may be looking to the skies the next couple of nights because the Lyrids meteor shower is set to hit its peak.

The amazing sight happens every year and will be particularly visible this year between 21 and 22 April.

It has to be dark to see it properly so people wanting to catch a glimpse will have to stay up late with the time between midnight and 3.00 am in the UK expected to be the best time to take a look."

Astronomy fans may be looking to the skies the next couple of nights to try and spot the Lyrids meteor shower, but what is it and how can you see it?

Where to look....High in the NE sky just to E of the bright star Vega

The images below show where Vega is between midnight & 3pm ish.... tonight and into the early hours

I'm going to set up my Brinno timelapse camera tonight so hopefully I can catch at least a few meteors. Also going to set it at 1 capture per second so hopefully it will be easier to capture a few.

I caught a really bright meteor last year (around March time I think, so most likely not the Lyrids) but I can't seem to find the video.

Hopefully when I get up tomorrow morning if I get a few meteors on camera I might upload them to YouTube/here!

That was a big signature

been out looking and only saw one in the corner of my eye to the SE and not in the area, still too early to see anything as Lyra is still rising on the horizon

if you can see the plough in the sky to the NE,then Lyra is below that.

Good morning all!

I have reviewed back my footage and caught 5 meteors on camera! I also got treated to a spectacular sunrise too!

For those who struggle to see some of the meteors in the video, here's where they are:

1. Middle top

2. Bottom left

3. Middle bottom (this one is quite faint)

4. Far top right

5. Middle bottom/a bit to the left
