Not sure that’s entirely accurate, some pretty active storms were forecast to reach the south coast then quickly a few miles inland, seems like that boundary was out by about 30-40miles too far north.

According to the radar it’s as anticipated, the storms are migrating (albeit slowly) across the channel and tapping into favourable conditions. Some may be heavy and there is a chance of a few nice surprises, but the south coast from Dover to Kent was always likely to be where it made landfall. Some of the storms haven’t even fired yet, there’s a lot of instability up there - if you can still see the clouds.

Looking juicy if you ask me

But they're not even half way across the channel yet.

If they fizzle out before hitting the south coast then fair enough, but there's still a lot of activity. Wouldn't call bust yet.

The favourable environment clearly isn’t near the coast, but look at drying radar reflectivity Devon through to the mid Dorset currently.

Well for what it's worth, I can see the cloud tops lighting up, looks to be from the activity south of Bournemouth.

Not that frequent at the moment.

There is a new cell that's popped up heading for Bognor regis ahead of the main storm.

It all seems to be moving more quickly north/NE now.

And still a lot of lightning activity... for now!

Looks better than a Kent clipper ATM, unless things change.

I'm kind of getting June 2019 vibes from this... No way it'll happen like that tonight though, surely?? That was something truly exceptional.

Yeah love it - exactly where it needed to be too - figured that open area north of Cherbourg was nicely cooking something up...
