Should be moving into an area of CIN so would expect it to weaken but will be interesting 52F19652-E58E-42B6-86D0-89EAF4D19883.thumb.png.d5389a68cb2660701717a268e24966a1.png5BFC4D93-B0CC-4A9C-9AE3-60B20B629321.thumb.png.7de542b5f7897eb0abb515c9317a0fc4.png

If you look south you can see the anvil top from here (just south of Bath)!!!!

Cloud top to the tropopause at around 35000ft should be visible to about 200 miles and we are about 186 miles north of it here

Looked like a hook echo as well

It wont make it guys, its rooted at the surface and once it leaves land and travels over the colder sea it will fizzle. Tops were at 35,000ft so impressive considering the temps were only 22c over there but Cape was around 1,400jkg

Tomorrow is a whole different animal though with thundery rain then thundery showers working off MUCape and the elevated nature of the storms means the Channel should not kill so many.

This cell appears to be making a good attempt at crossing the channel at the moment! Current cloud top temperatures of -57c

Updated view to the south. The majority of it is just to the SE which fits in with where the radar has it over the channel

Should brush past you, but to be honest I think it’s likely to expand into a larger band of thundery rain as the night progresses.

Good to know there is activity about. Cherbourg often seems to be the trigger for storms; it must be something about the landscape and city that fires them off so frequently. Perhaps it's time I moved there...

Thanks for the pictures!

Could I request that tweets of the storms in France be posted in the European convective thread?! Cheers.

I noticed I registered a strike of lightning about 50 mins ago! It looks as though I registered that lone pink cross..

The Arome fine mesh model which did very well in picking out the Cherbourg storms today brings in some heavy storms into Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Hants tomorrow evening. Could be quite interesting. Guaranteed to be a direct hit as I’m stuck with my kids tomorrow night and even if wasn’t lockdown effectively prevents hanging around on the cliff tops at Bournemouth tomorrow.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
