Too little too late . Thundery rain would be a bonus. Lol. Oh wel it’s only April. Hopefully some isolated cells pop up in a bit but I’ll be off to bed in 10mins

I just came in from staring south, before mountain rescue had to recover my frozen body. I'm not seeing anything, so I'll chalk this up as thundery rain.

I'm sure there is activity but not enough to make me stand out in the cold!  Have fun those who do see stuff! I'm signing out.

PS the Blitzorg site seems to be very delayed. That information looks around 2 hours old.

Looks like the activity is now done. Oh well.

Just remember we do have another warm and dry spell next week with temperatures in the high teens in the south, so hopefully it will be enough to perhaps spark some more activity next week...

Ahhh yeah been keeping an eye on this and could see this turning into a mass of heavy rain instead ahaha. Oh well certainly not complaining, was glad to see the lightning and hear some thunder the last 24 hours , a decent start to the season! Early days peeps, plenty more opportunity to come over the months hopefully.

Lovely consistent booms of elevated thunder now in Bexhill

Your hearing is obviously a lot better than mine then because here in next door St Leonards on Sea I could only hear an occasional very faint distant rumble. . I did see some sporadic flashes of lightning though, the first for a good many months.

Lets hope it's a sign of things to come.

Certainly wasn't a bust for me by any stretch of the imagination. A very respectable light show for so early in the season, with some lovely elevated growls of thunder occasionally. Fingers crossed for something more widespread and significant soon!

Looking increasingly likely that lightning activity will stay off shore, perhaps the odd flash/bang encroaching across SE counties. I won’t be staying up to watch, but equally not complaining as mid to late May is the time to start looking for imports (not April). Glad we are creeping further into storm season (yay) - fingers crossed we get some good’uns this year. Night all - hope some people get some thunder activity tonight

I was looking forward to just the sound of... rain. But even the wet mess is splitting into two around me

Seeing a few flashes to my SW, but even though I'm in the rain, hearing no thunder.

That bit between Kent and Dover is getting quite a bit of activity

You've lost me there Flash Bang, Dover is in Kent so not sure where the bit in between is .  All joking aside though, we've had some fairly decent rainfall here in the Hastings area this evening. Very sporadic lightning also seen.

It was a joke from earlier - but turns out my phone knew better than I did what was going to happen lol

I’m in bed now but just looked at the rain radar and it’s all swirling about. Quite a curious band of rain, could we see something on its rear edge?

Looks like little low has formed, probably at mid levels but might be interesting to see if any surface pressure falls are seen in next hour.

Cool little feature.

Pretty cool eh. Also activity picking up in the east and over the continent again. Funny old evening of weather

Poor effort from Mother Nature, frustrating irrespective of the time year that all the ingredients for a good show are in place all the way up to about 20miles from our shores....how many times does it happen

In the end unfortunately seems like the unfavoured GFS was pretty close to the mark for the resulting big wet mess across central England.

To be honest the radar image is interesting despite the disappointment
