This, ladies and gentleman, is why I plan to live on the coast one day.

Looks like someone put 50p in the meter for the cell south of Bournemouth

I just want to hear some thunder, I would take that for the middle of April any day.

Tipping it down outside, I know were not going to get anything 'nice' this far north, but it IS the first decent bit of rain around here for almost 3 weeks!

Well spotted..indeed was surprised to hear loud, heavy rain (and even the odd piece of smallish hail) outside here roughly 10 minutes ago - seemingly popped out of nowhere. Radar confirms that it was completely clear to my south at 21:20...it's now very dark overhead, there's a very distinct contrast to the relatively clear skies to my south. The night is still young perhaps..?

It is working,it's just that it's like a ghost town, you can just make out the ripples in the water below the pier light.

Has there been many instances where mother nature just does what it wants and completely ignores the predicted outputs of the models in regards to storms popping up unexpectedly? Not saying we're going to get a full on storm out of the blue tonight but I was just curious to know if this has happened before?

Many times, yes. I believe the plume of April 2018 was far more intense for the Southampton area than models suggested. Models can never handle these events with the certainty of say, frontal rainfall

It looks like being a messy-rain situation. Lightning activity has waned and is unlikely to pick up as it moves closer to the South coast, just not enough to support that.

Strange to be seeing storms approaching in the channel with it only being 9°C outside.
