A nice shiny new thread for the 2020 storm season, which is already getting started as I type. Fingers crossed for a good season which can bring us all the storms we hope to see.

Old thread here

Tomorrow I am hoping to put together my thoughts for Sunday's risk which could be our first proper convective day of the season.

This little potent cell earlier to the E of Londonderry looks like it was producing a hail core.

I was thinking... Some of the radar images were looking pretty good earlier.

Looks like things are starting to kick off again over towards Corwen area. ?️

The sky is very dark to my south.

Heavy rain now on but no lightning around. WRF 12Z has upgraded the risk for the next few hours.

Just been outside with the dog in the rain, and we’ve had a couple of flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder.

Being as I wasn’t expecting anything to kick off, I’ll take this as a win. ?️:yahoo:

It's all kicking off now just north of Manchester and maybe south of the city soon.

Decent clouds just as the last light of the day faded, here in Macclesfield. Nothing as yet.

I'm all the way down in Mansfield but amazingly have seen a couple of flashes to the north. Presumably the Manchester cell?

Saw flashes around 40 minutes ago, presumably they were around Ramsbottom as they seemed North of my location.

Must have been further over toward Wales. Saw the lightning but thunder still sounded a fair distance away

Just touching on the subject that @Flash bang flash bang etc was mentioning earlier about storm-chasing(and i do not know what rules apply to over here regarding COVID19).but how come storm chasers are chasing storms in the US?

maybe it's a life saving situation over there because it is a more extreme weather threat to over here,i do get some of his points though that you are in your car and be isolated from crowds if you are in the outback so to speak

i can imagine a copper pulling you up and saying what are you doing out here and you reply in saying that you are storm chasing, can you imagine his/her face

I was pondering the same back in late March if the US goes into quarantine the same time the Tornado Season starts, I imagine it works on a credential basis in that certified meteorologists are being allowed out for news-stations which they are contracted to whilst the hobbyists are remaining home. I would think it'll work on a regional basis if any local towns/cities are under potential for severe weather whilst the smaller villages and rural areas rely on public 'eyes on the ground' mostly to save the credented chasers the logistics of having to find gas stations or food to sustain the chase.
