Strange day temperature wise. It seems we are chasing sun to get the temps up (or, alternatively, dodging it to keep it cool?). We've managed 27C here on 1 hour of sunshine so far, so plenty of potential for a quick reheat!

Latest forecast looks like it has killed off any chance of August being the hottest on record. Might not even end up that sunny either.

It never looked like lasting longer than a week to be fair so was never likely to be warmest given the relatively average start. You either needs models to suggest persistence to overcome climo cooling in the second half or a truly stonking first half from day 1.

The average high for the first 12 days of August is 30.6c. The figure to beat is 27.0c in 1995. Forecast now has plenty of cool days languishing around 21c, so that average will collapse by the end of the month.

We're at 27/28c here in London today with plenty of sunshine. Still not seen a drop of rain or a clap of thunder here yet, although there are a few pushing through the SE at the moment, so could see some later.

Really pleasant today compared to the 35 degrees we've experienced over the last 6 days. It almost feels fresh, which ofcourse it isn't as 28 is still 4 degrees above the seasonal average for London.

After a biblical storm and lashing rain last night it is much more pleasant today around these parts and everyone in my household feels so much better for it.  The sun thankfully only managed to poke its nose out off and on for a couple of hours this morning before the clouds were finally able to shut it out giving at least a day (today) of welcome relief from its overbearing heat.

BBC app was last night showing 26C for Manchester today now its dropped the figure to just 23C.  Very cloudy and muggy but even places just 15 miles heading northwest into Liverpool are at 26/27C.

32°C indoors still. It's hot, sweaty and sticky for yet another day.

I hope it rains, pours.. I hope we get below avg temps from now until next summer. Cloud, wind, snow.. anything but a continuation of this.

Bit of a downer that weathercast has not had any station data for a couple of days. Noticed that it also affects their app and other meteogroup sites (eg. meteoservices.be) and data from other countries.

Weathercast data seems to be fixed now.

We never had a heat wave here but it’s been low to mid twenties and sunny for the last week and that suits me perfectly. Looks like this location is well placed for same conditions until at least Tuesday. I pay a lot of attention to what John Holmes has to say, and I feel that may be the last hurrah of proper summer.

The BBC app is not fit for purpose. Every single day for the last week here is grey cloud and 17/18 degrees. Reality 22/23 degrees and unbroken sunshine.

Thankfully today has provided much relief. So much cooler and fresher, lovely. More folk out and about as well, me suspects many had been sheltering from the heat. First time i've felt alive in days!! Roll  this on those Autumn days now, fingers crossed this summer has departed for this year. A repeat of the last week would be horrendous.

It’s really cool and foggy today. Feeling chilly in my shorts thinking it was going to be one last hot day

Very similar here. I also wore shorts today thinking it would at least be nicely warm, but no. Apart from a brief spell of sunshine in late morning, it's barely broken 20 °C all day here in N Worcs and there was a lot of rain around lunchtime. The MetO forecast (text, not just symbolic) was way out for last night -- storms dying out by midnight? Er... no -- and is way out again today -- is anywhere in the W Mids going to get anywhere near 26 °C? I'd be surprised.

Now the rain has stopped it's not a terrible day. Certainly not as miserable and gloomy as those horrible days in July. But it's quite a big disappointment considering what was forecast even yesterday evening.

So, here in Portsmouth with rain setting in, I think the heatwave is finally over this afternoon, precisely 7 days after it started.

Met Office Gosport station, just a few miles from me, has recorded the following in the past 7 days

Friday 31.0C

Saturday 33.7C

Sunday 33.8C

Monday 26.9C

Tuesday 31.9C

Wednesday 32.1C

Thursday (so far) 27.9C

For a south coast location, a run of figures like this is unheard of.

However, now I'm looking forward to getting the indoor temperature back below 30C!!!

Puzzling really as everything is in place for it to be much warmer than it is. When I went outside in the city centre this afternoon I was actually shocked by how cool it felt.

High uppers, favourable wind direction, hazy sunshine but the temp has been dropping through the afternoon.

I can only think it's the NE wind- places further west are more sheltered.

Usual day, this location looks to be one of most prone to north sea mist, finally lifted around 2pm, tomorrow looks equally crap

So we've missed all of the thunderstorms since yesterday in this part of London (NE). There have been some tracking over central, south and west London but down to luck (good or bad depending on your POV) we've missed them all. It's been a bone dry, sunny, warm day here peaking at about 28c.

Although, there are couple of storms tracking along the north Kent coast heading in my direction, so we could see something soon.

Not impressed with how the South Midlands has done throughout this week given the potential. At the start of the week the storms seemed to form over us and push northwards over the North Midlands, which meant that we only got a few distant rumbles at most. Wednesday delivered a pretty intense rainstorm but it certainly wasn’t one of the best I have seen. And today has been the worst day of the lot, just like one of those miserable July days we had last month. Will tomorrow deliver? I’m not hopeful.
