30 here now, but laughing at meto and bbc forecast for my location both way out, I’m finding arpege most accurate with temperatures right now so I’m ignoring bbc and metoffice short term

A lot of non official sites just in land from you above 34C already? Just how high could it go in Sussex today? Gatwick certainly in the running for a very high number.

35/36 should be reached, would be amazing if it could go up couple of degrees higher, conditions are perfect clear blue sky’s,slack very light southeasterly breeze, Feels like a Greek island with out the scenery, drove along the sea front there was no see breeze and the sea was like a dew pond it was so calm, that’s another sign it will get very hot

31.8C at Heathrow at 11:20. For comparison, last Friday (which exceeded 36) was only 31.4 at midday!

PWS's along the south coast now reporting light sea breezes, only Kent escaping. suspect temp rises will stop within 5miles or so of the coast shortly.

The beeb are surely going to have to update the max temp forecast above 34c!

Should comfortably hit 36 today! No high level crap coming in to ruin it yet, so can't rule out 37.

Satellite is certainly nice and clear around the London area. Barring cloud interruptions, 36c looks likely as you say!

Whilst Friday didn't quite make the top 5 hottest days of all time (joint 8th I believe?) Today has really got all the makings providing we escape any convective activity.

That can't be far off record pace, especially given we have been having late maxes in this heatwave!

Local station showing 32.6 c, absolutely sweltering, albeit a lot more comfortable than yesterday's humidity.

Wonder how high we can get today? 37c? 38c? Hopefully any storms hold off.

Fantastic spell of hot weather.

Do you use the Hillview Weather Station as a reference point?

Big breeze kicked in at Hersty, fell from 30.4C to 27.7C in the hour to midday. Still no breeze here but only a matter of time. 31.2C with a 20.9C dew point. Never felt it this hot down in 25years.

Heathrow up to 33c already. With 4 more hours of heating, if the clouds stay away we could see a 1c per hour climb to 37c.

Frustratingly, it reached 33.1C and has since dropped to 32.6C. A really odd site.

If you like seeing extreme heat temperatures over the UK, have a quick scan on Wunderground interactive map from London down to the Sussex coast. This area has been particularly hot during the spell, and it's going through the roof today. 36Cs, 37Cs and 38Cs aplenty and it's not even 1pm. The area around Haywards Heath looks like a hot spot.

Down here 5 miles off the Portsmouth coast, it thought about a sea breeze at around 11am but changed its mind! Weather stations generally between 33C and 37C. It would not be out of place in southern Spain today.

But these are nowhere near the official station figures.

No planes taking off? ;)

And then 10 minutes later, it's up to 33.6C. Clearly an A380 took off...

That's mainly because they are nowhere near the official stations!

If you compare Gatwick with the private stations around it, they are generally within 1C or 2C (either over or under).

On a NEly, my own private station is normally within 1C of Gosport Fleetlands official station, which is 5 miles almost directly downstream.

I think it's safe to assume a 1C or 2C margin for error on the consensus of stations in a small area, ignoring the obvious outliers.
