It's all very localised. Just like when everyone else gets a few snowfalls in winter and says it's not been bad, when down here in Cambridge we don't see a flake.

Today is another bake though - 31.3c with milky, hazy skies.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy this heat! Just not indoors without air conditioning. Plus, in this country I thin 5 or 6 days is my max at this level. The ideal temperature is probably around 27c.

I was 17 in 2003, it was the summer after my first year of 6th form. I just remember how the intense heat lasted for around a week.It peaked, then got a little cooler, then peaked again on the 10th at around 38 degrees. I remember having to sleep with two fans on me. 

Looking back at the stats for Heathrow, there was an 11 day stretch where temperatures exceeded 28c. It rose to 35c on the 6th, dropped back to the low 30s for a couple of days and then hit 38 on the 10th:

Pushing past 30c here in London. Went out for a walk earlier and it is very hot indeed. Could hit 34c again this afternoon.

An area of cloud has floated up from the south and is now expanding in-situ directly over South Yorkshire (according to satellite imagery) so that should put paid to a hot afternoon today.

Funnily enough I'm almost in the first situation right now. 33C on the bus wearing a mask. It's not actually that uncomfortable thanks to the air-conditioning. Last year I had to get on an old bus when it was 35C and it was horrible. And that was without a mask.

After a roasting, sunny morning here in Prague there is now a rather intense thunderstorm with shotgun thunder and torrential rain. Seems to be expanding on satellite pics. The temperature dropped from 32°C to 18°C in minutes!

Went for an early walk this morning, surprised to be greeted by this down by the waterfront....I thought it was a tad piping.

Having a day off from the ultra heat here in Portsmouth, but currently 27.8C is very nice thank you very much, and I've never known the sea so warm Back in the oven here tomorrow, or maybe the washing machine, one or the other l guess!

Also with a distant booming sound, very spooky sounding.

I remember the storms in June 2016 and 2017 had distant booming sounds.

And still its falls, 22C, I'll be scraping frost from my car before long. Arpege had 30C here plus this afternoon and we're already below our predicted 10pm temperature.

Bit of a shocker for you, this week was always going to be hit and miss with the cloud, must admit have got very lucky in this location so far, I will probably pay for it the rest of the week!

Yeah, was always a risk however we are nearly always ending up in this horrid halfway house that's not sunny and not thundery. Its always just weak convective leftovers. Just got a few spots of rain, I mean what's this all about.....

And to add @Alderc, the latest ARPEGE is really rubbing in for you, there is actually a 36C on that chart over Bournemouth for tomorrow, if you go to meteociel on a PC you'll see it!

I will eat my hat and other very indigestible items if that happens!

edit: well it's more like Wimborne than Bournemouth when zoomed in, but near enough!
