Wasn't 42C reached by some private stations back in 2006?

When the odd one is out it can be ignored, but when the majority are in the same range its probably legit. A lot of stations were 38-39C around Cambridge when the record was set.

It's just made me think of the potential for 40c temps in the UK thats all, and whether they've actually been reached before.

Don't think we'll be beating the record in my area which stands at 35.2 at Hawarden and happens to be the Wales record don't think anywhere in Wales is getting close to that. Not sure why but we seem to struggle to breach the low thirties in Wales I do wonder what it would take to beat the record here which was set in 1990 but I would imagine it would involve somewhere in SE England breaching 40 degrees considering the usual difference between the two areas.

I wonder if the plumes recently tend to be further east therefore we miss on out on the milder air. Or secondly whether we need a specific wind direction which we aren't getting recently and whether there is some influence from the Irish Sea moderating temps as we don't have the same temperature swings having the warmest lowest maximum temperature of all 4 nations and our proximity in general of being near the sea has something to do with it. Would be interested to see if someone could weigh in on my musings perhaps

A massive difference today with the onshore breeze. We're currently at 19.3C compared to over 30C this time yesterday.

Currently a pleasant 23°C here and partly cloudy with a gentle breeze. Yesterday reached about 24°C but was mostly cloudy here.

I think that might be a tall order. Sunshine is becoming limited again now.

Next stop - Thunderstorms! Need my 3 year drought to end.

Good luck with that, everything model wise look likes its being pushed north.....Looks thundery for some, I think we'll miss out though......

Back on the up here after a brief drop, 33C and rising. Still a chance of the highest temps being recorded between 4 and 5, as the 36/37s over inland Sussex work their way down to the official stations on the coast

Certainly a lot more cloud across the SE than forecast today. It’s been like a non stop streamer off the south coast! Held us back at 27c after 35.5c yesterday.

Ironically here on the coast I was expecting a lot of cloud today, yet the sun has been out most of the day! Feels as if the remnants of that trough were further north than forecast.

I get the impression that most of the people on here from the south are enjoying the heat, with a few seemingly disappointed it wasn’t even hotter than it was in thier location.

But personally I much prefer low-mid 20’s warmth. Much more comfortable!

Are you thinking a 32 might be possible?

Should've had more faith.. after dropping back down to 30°C earlier, it has now reached 32°C. Lovely!

I do love the heat, although in this country with our homes not built for it and no air conditioning there is a limit to how many days on the trot I can put up with 35 degree heat.

Luckily our average July and August temperature is 24c in these parts, so more often than not when the heat clears we’re back into pleasantly warm weather.
