Maybe if we continue with a poor July, we might get compensation with a warm sunny August. Good Augusts have been rare over the last couple of decades, and it seems to often happen that if June and July are decent, August is a let down (e.g  last year, bank holiday weekend excepted). It is very rare to have all three months of a season deviating significantly in the same direction from average.

15 dizzying degrees today, and it felt "warm" compared to the last few days. Still chilly indoors though - heating on again til the flat warms up to normal levels. I'm amazed that I'm getting excited about hitting 16°C at a location in which the standard mean max temperature in July is 21.5°C.

Felt more like a pleasant, late September morning this morning. Sunny but not warm at all.

Yes it was freezing at around 5:30 this morning. Opened the window, breathed out and I could see my own breath. Like a November morning. Not the first time this summer either.

All these comments about nice cool temps for sleeping - if only I found that so nice. It was 17°C in my apartment and I honestly couldn't sleep because of how cold it was! Was awake til 5AM tossing around trying to warm up. Also I finally caved and put the heating on today. This is the first time in my 33 years that I can ever remember putting on the heating in July. Unprecedented.

On this note it's now 11°C outside at 1PM and we've had the entire month's average rainfall already so this is the worst start to any July in all my records.

Yes I woke slightly chilly yesterday morning and that was WITH the duvet on! Finally relented and put the heating on yesterday as I was freezing, a first in July for me.

Yes the last 2 weeks have been poor, but there was heatwave before that. April and May were the sunniest on record and May was the 3rd warmest on record in the south. I think you need a reality check. We are overdue some poor weather

Where do you find stats for those Julys?

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/data/download.html

You'll want to click the "Monthly_ranked_HadCET_max.txt" link to find the particular stats I quoted.

Winters 2012-13 and 2017-18 were both good winters, there was widespread snow events and red snow warnings in both of them. After the past 2 rubbish winters I think people seem to forget just how good winter 2017-18 actually was.

A good spring doesn’t excuse a poor summer.

You forgot winter flooding? We were overdue some dry sunny weather, we got it in April and May. The two poor and good extremes were then cancelled out. I don't think anyone would have complained at an average summer, but it has been a disgrace, and warm nights masking the absolutely horrific daytime temperatures isnt an excuse.

"Horrific"? Yes it's not the most pleasant but come on, "horrific"?

It's a very usable day out there around these parts, and much of the next week is looking decent too. I swear some folks spend so much time complaining how crap the weather is that they don't go out when it's actually nice!

The last week or so have been crap, yeah, but let's not be so melodramatic.

Not by me,short spell in March 2018 doesn't really make a season. Not compared to 2009. That was like having a 2018 Summer for Winter lovers!

Depends where you are. The first seven days here had an average max temp of 15.3°C, over 2 inches of rain and only a few hours of sunshine. I’d say that is pretty horrific for July.

Yesterday was like a summer day in the Shetland Isles, completely overcast all day with occasional drizzle and a max temp of just 13°C. Today is a bit better, partly cloudy and breezy but still very cool with a forecast high of just 16°C.

Thankfully it’s looking a bit better by the weekend.

You are very hard to please. Most cold lovers take whatever they can get, same with heat lovers.

The UK is not a cold country. Expecting 3 months of ice and snow is always going to result in disappointment.

Totally agree. Horrific weather is a hurricane, tornado, life taking weather. Any extreme. Some folk just love to over dramatise things i feel, the current weather is none of these by any stretch

I don't, not now the climate has changed to such a extent. The winters i grew up with now are a distant memory.
