Because of the complete lack of sun and very suppressed temperatures since our heatwave broke last Friday, the house has cooled to autumn/winter levels. The heating is on and the slippers are back out. Unheard of in July for me.

Worst thing about the month is indeed the absence of sun. Nuffin above 18 degrees now on the BBC. Pfft. Was showing all 20-21 degrees before yesterday. Dimishing returns an' all.

The gfs chart this evening is an absolute wee wee taker..It does it all the time. Screaming heatwave for a few days..In the morning it will be below average again. I believe the GFS is an American model .I personally think they personally add runs like this to take the p|ss out of the UK weather.. (I know paranoia) but its been happening for years/

Which model does WO use? They have temps around average for the forseeable future in London, even slightly above at the end of the forecast. A huge improvement on the other day.

Where is 2020 so far ranked?

Summer index here for 2020 so far is 235, only 2012 (233) was worse. That will improve though, as temperatures increase and sun hours accumulate.

There is a near zero chance of this summer being cloudier, cooler or wetter than 2012. June had a huge advantage over June 2012, and July looks to have average temps and sun based on the forecast above.

Well it feels a bit more like summer today. Still not great but at least it’s slightly warmer with a lighter breeze.

Currently 13°C and blowing a gale outside. Bloody freezing. Never known a July as cold, cloudy, wet and miserable as this one. Having a warm bowl of soup for lunch.

Unfortunately we're not all lucky enough to live in the south. Yesterday was almost persistent drizzle all day, no sun, max 15°C, today it is cold, cloudy and windy! ❄️

It wasn’t warm everywhere in the south yesterday. It was only 16°C here on the coast and the strong wind made it feel cooler than that.

Quite a nice day out there for the SE. Mostly sunny skies & 22°C so a bog standard summers day here really, albeit very windy!! ?️

Lucky you. Very cloudy, cold and windy here today, temps no better than 15°C and I've just had a torrential shower.

THIS IS OFFICIALLY THE WORST SUMMER I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED!!! ITS LIKE BLOODY NOVEMBER!! SUMMER HAS BEEN CANCELLED THIS YEAR IN NORTH WEST ENGLAND!!

Similiar here east of the pennines however we did have sunny spells this morning but its now tipping it down. All in a 40 knot wind as well.

According to a nearby weather station it went from about 18 to 13 degrees here in about 2 hours. Cold front? Anyway cold with very strong winds but it was entertaining to watch pigeons literally getting blown backwards into the air in the city earlier.

horrid! but this time of year is dominated by the Atlantic, but nowadays low pressure systems seem deeper

Apparently you will still get people on here saying how ‘summer 2020 was warmer than average’ type nonsense, when we get to September.

June was poor. A one week heatwave and two very warm days at the start of june, wasn’t enough to save it from being a poor month. It was cloudy and unsettled overall.

Not really.  July is usually relatively settled, it’s usually August that is more Atlantic dominated. July 2015, 2016 and 2017 were all atlantic dominated and Westerly, although there was still plenty of fine days in between. What we’ve had so far in July has been absolutely atrocious and has been much worse than any of those years I’ve just mentioned.  Still blowing a gale and now it’s come on raining heavily again. Worst summer since 2012 here for sure.

Yep. CET means bugger all when it comes to how a month's weather actually was. A cloudy, wet, summer month seems much cooler than even a mild March. Anyone would agree that March 2012 was a far better month than June 2012 even though it was colder.
