we often get to 10 here in Edmonton..today for example is 9 which is pretty normal for summer...yet we are on the same latitude as Manchester

According to the Met Office Edmonton is a 7 today & not any higher all week? And I believe they take into account elevation too. So I'd be very surprised if you got to 10 given we're now around the solstice. It got as high as that in California when I worked there but that's not surprising given it was as far south as Spain.

Just looked at a couple of other sources & they are different on them as well. So who knows what to believe. But the original point is I still can't recall seeing a 9 in this country. Like someone else quoted a snippet from the Met Office saying an 8 only occurs on "exceptional" days. I've noticed the UV has been a bit higher than normal through the Spring as well.

Sleep is harder for sure, but under a thin sheet with the fan on me it’s not so bad. I sleep less in the summer anyway due to the early morning light but I also feel way less tired regardless.

I work in a tin box with no air conditioning at all, so no.

Like you can't enjoy the outdoors, the garden, have a picnic, whatever if it's 27, can you?

so far summer 2020 has been up and down.. (if you want to start from the June 1st that is). I am hoping we do get a long settled period eventually this summer. It really annoying when the weather changes from day to day.Nice 4 days coming up and a lovely start here. so no complaints.

Heat everywhere again. The USA is having its own heatwave. We are going to get our own hot spell and there's Siberia of course which is the most extreme one of the selection.

Look how far south that wind has come from and dragged all that heat right up to the Arctic Circle. That temperature contrast is extreme from Siberia at 30+ C compared with the freezing point temperatures just to the north of it. Imagine the severe thunderstorms if the air mass wasn't so dry

Really enjoyed our first Month of Summer so far - few cool/wet days (today is pretty grim! ) but most have been in the high teens/low twenties (our average June temperature is a whopping 16C ) with plenty of sunshine! Mild nights also...especially the last seven to ten days. 

Buzzing for this brief burst of heat Thursday/Friday with the risk of thunderstorms. 

 

Warmth, convective weather, stunning sunsets, lenticular clouds and noctilucent clouds have been the highlight of this month for me.

I am a weather enthusiast who loves every season of the year - each delivers something I enjoy. (Love anything extreme as let’s be honest...our climate is not exactly the most exciting on Earth - nothing much really happens all year round!)

Totally understand/respect that everyone is different with regards to weather preferences as can be seen in this thread - makes for an interesting forum. (Would be boring if you we all enjoyed the same weather types!)

It’s a weather forum - people here are very likely to be drawn to the more extreme side of weather whether it be cold or hot. 
 

Where do all these posters come from in the summer? It’s like the heat-haters have burner accounts or something.

You live in such a great spot for weather photography. Water and mountains - beautiful in winter and summer alike eh.
