Within 4-weeks

Highest-priority cases being tested first ie those on the front line then it will move to other members of the public via a 'point-of-care swab test' outside of hospitals

Testing next week is expected to increase to the 10,000 per day level that was announced last week. It's currently around 5,000 per day.

Within four weeks I expect to be in self-quarantine. I don't have a car. My nearest hospital is four miles away. So the "point-of-care swab tests" will need massively wider distribution than that. Not saying they won't be -- I don't know -- but for me one outside a hospital would be useless.

Just another reminder of where we were globally just 15 days ago:

image.thumb.png.c3da8a8d22d8023e5391b22a3d3f6280.png

It really is amazing how far we have gone downhill in just 15 days!

Italy had just 2,000 cases then...on the same broad path, we should be close to 25k by the end of the month here in the UK and 1500 deaths.

You can’t be serious? They don’t really know how to treat it yet. Six months from now we may be in a position where it is a manageable condition.

Dead serious, I wouldn't bet an a therapy anytime soon. If you are young and otherwise healthy you have a good chance of pulling through with with the proper medical support should you need it

I see BB has announced schools are going to close. Only because they were going to close already due to staff shortages.

With community spread evident in Malaysia, the European & North American spread of SARS-CoV-2 might not be suppressed by summer weather as much as some thought.

New York State apparently has had an increase of 1,008 new cases of coronavirus in a single day, taking the total to 2382, with 1339 in NYC alone.

This perhaps could be because of the increase of testing going on in the area. More testing will bring more positive cases. I think that unfortunately the number will increase significantly within the upcoming days. I think to flatten the curve, social distancing might help, but it might not flatten the curve immediately. I think a lockdown should be on the way because of this. It will start getting out of control. If anything, it already has gotten out of control.

This apparently was New York today. Credits go to someone whose name I forgot on Twitter.

So I’ve read Germany is not counting deaths with those with underlying health conditions. Sneaky!

That is starting to look like a hotspot to me, in much the same way we saw in Madrid and parts of Lombardy...

I think the government might to shut this down in the next 2 days otherwise we might see a Spain like take off sooner rather than later.

Correlating with your post, the WHO have also told Africa to 'prepare for the worst' regarding Covid-19. This truly is a global pandemic. It is really difficult to come to terms with how deeply affecting this is, and will continue to be, for everyone.

It has been widely reported, though I've no source to hand right now, that London is a fair way ahead of the rest of the UK (in terms of position on the exponential curve). Two weeks or so.

Either a milder strain or their health service has been looked after and not run down.

Either they're telling fibs about the deaths or for some reason the healthcare is of better quality than the NHS. I did read the other day that Germany has a lot more ICU's than the UK. So that's probably another reason.

Apologies for what is mere speculation on my part but I thought part of the reason was the figures for the deaths was only for those who had died from the virus without other underlying health conditions?

What's up with those numbers from Germany? Something is fishy there, no way the deaths and critical cases are so low right?

Ah, I see it's being discussed already.

To be honest I haven't a clue about that one. Someone else here should know though. I was under the impression deaths was with & without underlying health conditions but maybe not.
