Regarding fatality rate, Chris Whitty is confident the fatality rate is a bit lower than 1%, without taking into account asymptomatic cases. Unfortunately we don't know enough about this disease and no serology testing has been done to get an accurate measure of this. What we hope for is for a huge proportion of cases to be asymptomatic.

Is Asymptomatic zero cases?

To be fair now that we have a large non-Chinese sample size the critical rate globally (hospital) has fallen to 7% so 93% of people are likely to recover quickly.

I have a feeling when the deaths hit 10000, people will suddenly find they will do anything to stop the spread going any further.

To hit 10,000 would take months and by then human self interest will mean ever greater civil disobedience.

Iceland will be opening an hour earlier to allow older people to shop. I guess other people can shop for them as well. However if you then realise you've been exposed they are going to be really happy.

Pity the Government hasn't introduced rationing as well.

Why would we ration, the supermarkets are full of goods bar a minority people have latched onto. Now is the time to buy a recipe book and go for all the stuff the supermarkets have plenty of.

It seems like mass shutdowns will take place before Boris finally decides to announce it

Nicely allowing government to point out how it defended your liberties longer than other nations in four years no doubt (same reason Macron is keeping the elections).

The announcement today is to prepare people for outright ban and closure, bar supermarkets, pharmacies, and a few other outlets. Outright sledgehammer 'ban/closure' probably come in by the weekend possibly?

But surely it was said do it now.  Trying to treat the masses with a modicum of intelligence. If they don’t rise to the occassion it will be  forced.  Supermarkets? Not what I heard.

Are they hiding an army of babysitters?

Fascinating stuff though for a western democracy and not even stuff predicted more than a month ago.

So the options are there and it is up to everyone to decide what they in particular want to do.  Hopefully not too many are waiting to hear what to do.?

I still don't understand this term "lockdown" and don't think I ever will. People are able to go to the shops - prime spreading territory. People are able to go to work if they can't work from home - this is an awful lot of people. What is a family event? This is still far too vague to help most people who want to do their best for everyone else.

A nine-year-old British child has tested positive for coronavirus during a ski holiday in Bulgaria, local media said today. The youngster and his family were tested for the pathogen after they arrived at a ski resort in Bansko on Friday. Officials placed the whole family in quarantine because the child's uncle had been in contact with his sister who was known to be a virus patient. The two adults and three children were all screened for the virus, but only the nine-year-old child has tested positive, Bulgarian National Radio reported.

'The samples turned out to be four negative yesterday. The nine-year-old is positive for coronavirus,' a regional health official said. None of them are in hospital at the moment and they will be allowed to return to England after 14 days if there are no complications, the official said. Separately, a 78-year-old Briton is also being tested after showing possible virus symptoms, according to Bulgarian media.

Bulgaria's attorney general Ivan Geshev has called for all ski resorts in the country to be closed. Local authorities in Bansko have also urged hotels not to accept any new guests. A statement signed by Bansko mayor Ivan Kade said hotels should ask existing guests to sign a form promising to comply with health regulations.  Bulgarian media described the nine-year-old as the 52nd virus patient in the country, which has recorded two deaths from the disease.

Officials placed the whole family in quarantine at the resort (file photo) because the child's uncle had been in contact with his sister who was known to be a virus patient. The country's parliament has declared a state of emergency to run until April 13, paving the way for more drastic measures. In a subsequent order, Health Minister Kiril Ananiev ordered the closure of shops - except food stores and pharmacies - with immediate effect until March 29. Shopping malls, casinos, bars and restaurants have also been shut down, along with schools, universities, kindergartens, theaters, cinemas, concert halls and stadiums. The football union had already said that it was cancelling league games until April 13.

Bulgaria reported its first two cases of the coronavirus on March 8 and has since tested more than 1,400 people. The state of emergency decree was proposed by the country's coronavirus task force in a late-night session with the government on Thursday. The Parliament responded swiftly, passing changes to the penal code on Friday that include fines of 1,000 to 10,000 leva (£460 to £4,600) and jail sentences of up to three years for people who violate public orders.

I guess there will be a huge 'Social Hangover' from this episode?

From the children who killed their Parents by demanding their Labour for 'Childcare' to the folk who did not 'self isolate' (due to personal economic circumstances?) and so took out the older members of their workforce..... to the folk who thought the likes of me 'Weak' for failing under the weight of PVS.... once they're into their 5 month of such as they decided to keep themselves 'stressed' (even though advised not to?) over the period of 'Peak infection'

Then there will be the 'Political fallout' and the 'navel gazing' of a Capitalist system that demanded such a high tally of fatalities in people so as to maintain itself.......

The question no one will want to answer is "What did You do over Covid-19......(I suppose at least folk will know what to expect should similar ever arise again and they find themselves in the 'At Risk' groups eh?)

Why mixed?  They could have talked for ages trying to cover every scenario.  I didn’t  find it to difficult to understand the basic message.  Social distancing. Relaxed to severe

Any relatives that they could realistically stay with?

After more clarification I think we're in the normal social distance group, but we'll see if NHS phones or not. My med does sepress the immune system, but not to the same effect as chemotherapy, we'll work something out if we have to.

It's just not clear enough, Snipper. A basic message is not enough. Social distancing is made into a nonsense if people are still going to work and the supermarket as normal. Either you have to stay at home and only go for walks well away from other people etc. or you don't. It's just too confusing for people.

And utility bills are suspended - just when the week will bring less need for the heat to be on - but more showers needed!

Looking at the graphs the 24hours to 9am today saw the 2nd highest amount of testing to date (3,826) with an additional 1,293 tests compared to the same period on Sunday morning new cases have fallen by 61

Daily positive cases

Test results to 9am - The UK's current 24hr high is 4,975 tests to 9am on the 14th

Whilst testing is a bit of a mismatch at the moment it's certainly not on a downward trend.
