The NHS increased testing earlier in the week to up to 10,000 a day before it was decided to be done in hospitals only.

The figures from earlier in the week are now filtering through with a lag time of around 3 to 4 days from testing to getting the result

So today's figure is the figure from about 3 days ago?

Apart from the excessive buyers I think a lot of the problem is people use a loo roll at least once a day and probably a lot more.  Not unreasonably most people are rather put off using the alternatives.  Other than torn up Mail & Mirror of course.

A bit harsh...... on the bum I think.

Not quite as lovely, but there was a child trying to get on the bus in front of me once, he was probably about 14 or so. Was 50p short and the bus driver said no. The child explained he didn’t have a phone and no one was home anyway (a good hours walk uphill to a local village) but the driver still said no.

I just said I’d pay - the bus driver was annoyed I’d helped the boy but had to accept my money.

I don’t get how common decency isn’t more of a thing?!

Times a change don't they at that age and even now I would be walking unless carrying something heavy or ill.

Now whether other organisations actions of closing down will slow the spread will only time will tell.

WHO spokeswoman Dr. Harris slammed the UK's decision to aim for #COVID19 herd immunity: "We don't know enough about the science of this novel coronavirus, it hasn't been in our population for long enough for us to know what it does in immunological terms."

Assuming we still have a 3 to 4 day lag (not seen anything to say we haven't) the results today for new cases will be from tests carried out around mid week

I dont think alot of the toilet roll shortages are down to panic buying as such, more that the supermarket systems and supply chains caught out.

As soon as people started to realise they may need to work from home, or indeed self isolate they naturally began to work out what they may need. Those who work in offices in London etc, now working at home will soon find they need extra at home as they won't be using the usual amount at work. Self isolators who again would be normally using work stock now need at home.

So it's more about a supply chain shift.

How many work places now have plenty of toilet rolls now not being used, say in the stores and maybe even rolling deliveries continuing and overstocking of workplace stores.

If we don't know enough about the science of the virus then surely every strategy employed against it is a risky one, and not just the UK's?

The problem for the government is, regardless of whether their strategy is right or wrong, when the deaths get into the thousands, the fact there was doubt about their strategy will count against them. Taking the strictest measures now and they would have been forgiven for they would have been seen to be "doing their best"

I think I have the answer to the toilet roll depletion - it's Kenny:

Well I'm been sniffling again today was going to meet my friend who is a nurse. Decided to play safe and call it off. Of course now the sniffles will decease I bet. However if I did go along and it wasn't a cold I would feel pretty guilty.

This moring I walked past one my Neighbours cars which had a pack of toilet rolls in the back seat. This afternoon I noticed when doing my car checks the window had been broken and was now covered up. Surely someone has broken in to nick them? Madness if I see them I'll ask.

Below is a graph of the cumulative COVID-19 cases in the UK

Confirmed_14_3.thumb.png.7d1788c59897259cdebef9d9f359871d.png

So far, the proportion of confirmed cases has been growing at a trend 0.5% each day. Assuming this continues, and that the ramp up to 10,000 tests per day continues, below is an extrapolation of the number of cases over the next week.

 Predicted_14_3.thumb.png.def5f141f23d7b6025725f6cbab59deb.png

A dramatic increase, but very much in line what the rises seen elsewhere in Europe.

I think it will grow more than this tbh - what with very few measures to stop the spread.

Went for a walk with wife + kids to our local countryside walk this afternoon - never seen it so busy at this time! Then it occurred to me, all the sport has been called off. So those saying "cancel one thing and people will just do another" were right as far as today was concerned. Though I can't help thinking it will get a lot quieter once the death toll starts to pile up.
