Ditto, very strong gusts, the strongest of the past week, and some flashes of lightning, rumbles of thunder and hail to boot! Roll on Spring though.... I've had enough of this winter.

Perhaps this is for another thread but I’m hearing another storm could develop, called Storm Ellen? Does anyone have any further information on this?

I saw something about another pair of Atlantic lows doing the same dance and then merging as happened with Dennis, think they mentioned Wednesday, but I haven't seen any details.

That site is exaggeration or scare mongering.

As I said upthread, until you get used the the automatic projections they can scare the beejeebers outa you!

Earlier in winter the temp station here in Mytholmroyd was giving a 5m surge on its projection...has a lot of folk spooked on the F.B. flood group for our area.... but then , once the rainfall rate decreased, the plot dropped back down to below flood levels?

Use them to check current river levels but use your own wisdom to see if the projection is to be trusted?

Yeah it was a over prediction, but its still one of the worst floods (not yet peaked) in Shrewsbury since 2000. Roads into and out of town now being flooded... defences holding up where they have been installed. If this was before the EA put in all the protection the town center would be totally cut off like the old days and there would be masses of proprty flooding. For all the crap the EA take when there are floods, once again the Shrewsbury Scheme has worked well again.

They work together before issuing the RAIN warnings, Env agencies share their flood forecasts and current water on the ground conditions, the Met Office share the forecast rainfall info. The warnigs are then issued to complement each other.

Thanks. Just seen this.

Makes sense.

Ironbridge  residents being evacuated   as  river levels rise to just below the storm barriers  image.thumb.png.c096f789584ee92417219b9a55cc42ea.png

I hope everyone listens to the evacuation advise, and that vulnerable people who need help to move now, get the help they need. I also hope the barrier holds.

Those precipitation forecasts look very worrying but it’s impossible to ignore the rain shadows east of the Welsh mountains and east of the Pennines.

Yes Wales bearing the brunt  but  we all know that the rainwater from wales seeps into rivers such as the severn.   Flooding going to be worse around already flooded areas.

Apparently Shrewsbury town centre is practically an island at the minute. Even more rain on the Welsh hills in the coming few days is just going to exacerbated issues in those prone areas along the Wye, and the Severn to name just two.

Unfortunately this will be another winter that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

Its not quite as bad as last night, but all the roads into two are still closed, though one of them could be open to get in and out of town (shut for traffic control reasons)

Never did reach the historic peak of 5.25 topping out at 4.88 but thats bad enough.... going to take a few days to clear, and to be hones the situation of concern has moved down to Ironbridge where they have a Severe Flood Warning and it might overtop the barriers before 10pm tonight...
