Warnings for Monday #StormBrendan

Met Eireann "There is a significant risk of coastal flooding due to the combination of high spring tides and storm surge."

"Further warnings for strong winds and rainfall are likely to be issued in the coming days. A combination of spring tides and gales may lead to coastal flooding at times."

Valid: 00:01 Monday 13/01/2020 to 23:59 Thursday 16/01/2020

Met Office - "A widely very windy period expected Monday afternoon and evening with some disruption to travel likely."

Another low approaches from SW on Tuesday with strong gusts for England and Wales, will prob just get lumped in with Brendan, UK MO seem reluctant to name anything.  Ciara is next on list.

Jo, an interesting approach to naming storms, like take your pick is it or isnt it? Considering they appear to be two unique low pressure areas, surely grouping the names is an odd approach to take, especially as there's a time period on location difference between them..

Looks like more of a coastal feature to me, not many inland areas are showing gusts over 55mph.The central belt doesn't even have a warning yet...

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is urging people to be prepared ahead of some stormy conditions expected across the start of next week, with a risk of flooding to all Scotland's coastal areas.

The Met Office has forecast strong and sustained winds from Monday morning, 13 January, through much of the week. Combined with naturally high tides next week, the sustained winds will create an unusual and dangerous combination of tide, storm surge and inshore waves. There is therefore a risk of coastal flooding to all Scotland’s coastal areas. The highest risk is around high tides from midday Monday through to Tuesday afternoon. There is a flooding risk to coastal road and rail routes and coastal communities right around Scotland’s coastline.

These conditions can be dangerous. Be aware of the most up-to-date Alerts and Warnings, visit floodline.sepa.org.uk/floodupdates

Western Isles schools closed after severe gale warning

Quote

Parts of Scotland have been warned to expect severe gales as Storm Brendan hits on Monday. As part of preparations for the storm, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (the Western Isles council) has closed all its schools to pupils. All bus services on the islands have been cancelled and serious disruption to ferry routes is likely. The yellow warning issued by the Met Office covers a 14-hour period from 10:00 until midnight.
