[Northernlights]

Hardest frost of the winter this morning although only just below 0c it has been driven in by a fresh wind. Fabulous no mud. The drying process has at least started again Real arctic sky too with snow showers on the horizon to the north and west.

Not masses of snow but a decent covering and it's frozen and crispy, not wet and slushy. 

Winter 2019/20 won't go down as completely snowless for me.

Barring a miracle (i.e. lying snow before Sunday) I'll have another snowless (meteorological) winter under my belt in the East Neuk of Fife. It's good to be back! 

Glad to see some west coasters get a little bit of the white stuff though. Other folks don't understand the pain of living so close to the sea!

@CatchMyDrift SEPA figures are eye-opening. It's felt comparatively wet around here this month but St Monans (a mile down the road from me) has recorded 127mm of rainfall (Leuchars is at 141mm) so far this year while Inveruglas on Loch Lomond has recorded 1,024mm!

 Over a year though, I'd go with either the East Neuk of Fife or coastal east Lothian for the lowest!

The (relatively) dry, sunny climate here is the payback for the scarceness of snow!

Northernlights has SNOW heavy falling snow on frozen ground.

 

Good job we went to Spring Show at Thainstone yesterday in  glorious sunshine. Currently  0.5c with a moderate west wind

Overnight we had some more snow with a light covering on the ground this morning. This afternoon so far has been sunny with a few hail and sleet showers passing through.

Sunny with less wind than yesterday so feeling warmer.

Here is same part of upper Tay valley a week apart. The deer have come back!

Heavy snow down to sea level Inverness for a solid hour or more earlier, predictably the local forecast/apps were absolute miles off. Snowed up at the house most of the morning, yesterday had it’s moments too

Twenty seventh air frost overnight at - 1.0°C. Fair covering of white powder and a beautiful dawn at first light pinky bluey. Quiet cold day in Edinburgh.

Definitely the best winter's day of the winter so far although I was too busy to get the camera out.

First it snowed while I had a shower this morning so I took a detour to work on a few miles of small Caithness tracks, new weatherproofs reminded me how good they are in all cold conditions.  Lovely pinkish views again to the west of the north Sutherland mountains, now completely white down to about 200m, ie all the scoured areas covered by overnight showers on a gentler flow.

More snowball fights at work but site roads sanded first thing so no drifting round corners.

Then the afternoon drive back to the Black Isle with more changing views of snowy parts down to sea level and a couple more light showers.  There's more snow on the top of the Black Isle than since 2 winters ago, melting in the sun but so much better than the rest of winter. And it looks a bit like something similar is to last a bit longer...

Woke up to a wee crunchy dusting @Ross B - Winter has finally delivered a sea level dusting at home.  (Biggest showers went North and South of me during the night)

One of my favourite sights in Winter...squally snow shower approaching this morning. 

Planned to head up a respectable (400 meters) hill over on the Cowal Peninsula - that plan soon vanished as the snow/wintry mix showers just kept coming and coming. (Really gusty winds during them)

Came across this wintry piece of art...

 

Even as I returned home at sunset I could still see the showers kicking off in the distance. 

 

Another eventful Winter’s day - hopefully a more calm day for a snowy hill/mountain walk early next week.

Sad to see the remnants of our snow up here disappear in the strong sun BUT......what a joy to have an actual, ACTUAL dry day! Nothing falling from the sky, and with a steady reduction of the snowpack through sublimation rather than a torrential rain-induced thaw. Lucky to have the day off and so walked from the door for a 6hr jaunt around the Lomonds

Twenty eighth air frost at -0.1C around 10pm last night. Temps bounced along toward 1C all night and now up to 4c as the wind has picked-up and light rain around.

I see the Met have issued a few snow warnings for the next few days for anyone that lives up a decent hill. Forecast does mention to snow to low levels though for later this afternoon.

For the rest of us the weekend looks pish

Yes could be some significant snowfall associated with Jorje this weekend and down to quite relatively low levels. evaporative cooling will kick into gear, and Scotland will be under 528 dam air for most of it - low thicknesses, will all depend on dewpoints. Even today further snow expected, making for quite a snowy latter end to February all round.

Just had a similar slide. Down from 3.5C and rain to 1.8C and snow.
