The dogs are refusing to go out in this so I’m not going to push it until late afternoon. I’ve already been out for a hair appointment and it’s miserable, we’ve seen 14mm of rain since 7.20am and this isn’t even the heavy stuff that’s on it’s way.

Wellies have been dug out because I’m determined I’m going to clock up at least two miles for this challenge today whether the pampered pooches like it or not

Steady rain this morning and feeling cool at 9.0C. Nothing too heavy but steady and likely to last for some time which I suppose is why there is san amber warning.

Wife and I are just back from a full Gortex clad hour long walk with the dog and it was a predictably soggy experience. Temp currently 7C according to the guy up the roads weather station but I am surprised as it didn't feel that cold. 

Now up to 19.5mm of rain since 8am,and as you say we're not even in the Amber warning time period yet.

I don't know who's responsible for today's weather but they're not getting a 'like' from me. The rain started at 10am with some proper man-sized drops hitting the skylight but eased off to a constant drizzle that continued until 4pm. And it has remained chilly all day. Altogether rather unsatisfactory with 13mm of rain and a top temperature of 8 deg.C so far. No wind though.

Afternoon all,

Very dreich, wet and grim here in the east Neuk. Not often we get prolonged rain like this in what is normally one of the driest spots in Scotland but absolutely foul. I also have leaks, in the garage and at the back door. Been around 10c all day.

I only wish that we had drizzle. Got heavy this morning and if anything has got worse as the day has gone on. STV  Weather now saying 60 mms for here. Well on the way now. Slightly warmer now at 10C though the NE wind is strengthening.

30mm on the rain gauge here so far. I feel for all you westies having to put up with this kind of thing for the 90% of the year when the lows spin everything in YOUR direction

I’d say it has been a standard wet day here in the west. The rain has been moderate but never heavy since this morning. Not much in the way of wind. That said the rain has been constant. I’ve now got this song looping in my head as I look at the rainfall radar over Scotland.

My station is up to 65.3mm for the day which is quite incredible. I’m actually getting a little concerned if it stays this heavy all night. It seems to have accelerated since 7pm.

Hopefully no flooding issues for anyone in this thread.

Drizzle here all morning and then as @chemikal mentioned mostly moderate rainfall but pretty constant since dinner time - high of 10C! 

Later next week looks much better although still the risk of showers/prolonged bouts of rainfall. (Snow on the mountains! )

Can see @shuggee air frost count soaring from mid October!

Planning Outlook

Low pressure will continue to dominate across Britain throughout the week ahead, risk of stormy conditions for a time around midweek; although much uncertainty. Generally unsettled and rain frequent. Some windows of drier weather locally. Temperatures above freezing on all mountains early in the next week, but then turning colder from the northwest later in the week with showers increasingly falling as snow across the Munros, and even on high tops in England and Wales.

Torrential since 8am here, has never let up at all. Kids first game of the season cancelled tomorrow...u couldn't make it up.... Never mind only a few weeks till the hunt for snow begins and it can't be worse than last year...

@edo its 2020 never say never. The way this year has gone it wouldn't be a surprise if the mildest winter on record happened.

Sat under it I can tell you that it certainly is, in fact it's rattling off the lounge windows now. Just short of 53mm and if anything it's getting more intense. Luckily, being 200m up a hill there's no real chance of us being flooded.

The wife & I have been ‘Covid Nesting’ since summer. Top of my expensive wish list* which hasn’t happened is a log burner. @Mair Snaw you are a lucky man. New couch, rug, curtains, Sonos Move & infrared heater for the decking. My friend who is a doctor in Manchester called the 2nd wave back in July and he has been bang on. Think what you can do to make the next 6 months better for you, friends & family. Don’t procrastinate!

Steady rain all day, moderate in the daylight hours but a real change in the last two hours or so.

Temperature has risen nearly 3c to 11.2c and wind really picked up - for moderate now read torrential rain.

Vile driving conditions and flooding everywhere, I see they've now closed the A944 to the west of us at Whitehouse and Tillyfourie due to it.

Going to be some very large rainfall totals by this time tomorrow.

Rain has been constant here all day. Wind has increased from the East and the temperature has risen around three degrees this evening to 12.7C. Rainfall totals over 40 mms for the day taken from my nearest weather station as I had not realised a tree from the garden behind has grown substantially and now has branches overhanging my own rain guage

Ooo it'd be nice! It brings to mind two decent walks in snow during early falls but there were quite some time ago now. Second week in October back in 2011 and having a lovely blizzard below Stob Binnein:

And then even better....in 2007 I think.....two inches of snow on Conival and Ben More Assynt towards the end of September:

Didn't last long though, that September one. It had all melted by lunch time. Made it memorable though

My memories of the first few years in Fife from 2010 onwards are that the Cairngorms got their first decent lying snow in October every year, but in recent years it's seemed harder to come by? Might just be my rubbish old brain failing me though!
