Scotland /Alba weather discussion 2020

Recommended Posts

Morning all,

Im not sure if it’s a new day or just a rerun of yesterday. ? Worst thing is I may be saying the same thing until the middle of next week! ?

Haar, 12c/12c. Good luck to those who see it lift/burn off, unfortunately not much prospect of that for the likes of myself, @Kirkcaldy Weather @Norrance etc.

Some more pics from this morning in the Lomond Hills. Just the most sublime colours at sunrise. We had 12cm this morning, sunny all day except for a slight freshening up in the afternoon, now -0.7C an

Sounds grim @Hawesy

By contrast a lovely Blue sky start here, low was 13c. Already about 18c here, should be reaching 25c comfortably in my sheltered back garden.

Looks to be a more summery week ahead!

Looking at the positives it’s a whole degree warmer than the same time yesterday (14c instead of 13c) and the haar has thinned a bit as these photos show. ?

Some nice storms kicking off in Ireland/Northern Ireland, North Wales and parts of the West Midlands!

Meanwhile in Scotland...hee-haw!

Currently 20C and very humid here with hazy sunshine - no chance anything is going to happen though.

Risk of thunderstorms/downpours reserved for parts of the Highlands and South West Scotland - late afternoon/early evening.

Sunshine/warmth is great but I am getting a wee bit desperate to see a bit of convective weather! ?

Hopefully the new week delivers something - Met Office have the main action in Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire tomorrow.

@Hawesy Heading into next weekend looks glorious for you (warm/sunny) - enjoy the haar while you can. ?

Glorious out there now - current temperature of 22C.

Couple of nice cells ongoing at the moment. (Highlands and SW - lightning showing up on both)

Cloudy, grey, humid, calm and occasionally drizzly, but the temp got up to 16/17C.

We flouted the 'rules' and the whole family, all 5 of us, took the dog for a walk around Loch Kinnord. We reckoned if we added up our individual 5 mile limits, so 5 x 5 =25 miles, at 21 miles each way we were within our allowed distance from the house. Not sure if that's how the rules work, but at least I was confident about my eyesight before I jumped in the car.

Everyone enjoyed the walk despite it being less than perfect weather.

We got up to 18C today but it stayed cloudy. I headed 5 miles east to Gordon Woods for the afternoon dog walk, no prizes for guessing which way is looking west and which way was east:

Yuk.

Three letter word to summarise the day, though tempted to use a four letter one.

Haar all day, calm conditions and feeling oppressive again with the temperature max of 16.5c.

We're 18 miles inland and the haar was so thick this evening that the lights had to be used from 8pm.

Quite impressive in a way, interesting to know how bad it was on the coast itself.

Sunday started at 16c and  was a bit dull in the morning but sun came out a bit in the afternoon and got very humid. Allowed us to bale and wrap up some nice dry silage so we were not carting about too much water about . Growth took off again but the easterly drft has brought in some diamond back moths to the neeps from the Continent so another spray job this week. Their caterpillars are the problem if we let them breed as they devour the leaves. The haar has returned through the night here too and is as thick as I have ever seen it.Currently 14c and very humid so not sleeping.

Rinse and repeat although there’s the chance of some rain today to ‘brighten up’ the haar fest ?

Leuchars readings tell the whole story, but it’s a pretty monotonous read!

We've had a veritable rollercoaster down here compared to that, up to 18C yesterday and then back down to 12C overnight and flamboyantly switching between cloud and haar too.

I’m very jealous! ? I’m having frightening  flashbacks to June 2007 which was a horrendous month locally, the least sunny June ever recorded at Leuchars. Although it did have one spectacular thunderstorm event, easily the most impressive I’ve experienced here. A neighbour’s radiators were blown off the wall following a lightning strike!

Sticky, muggy, midge! Temp down a good bit from yesterday when it got up to 27.6c here. Now at 21c but feels a lot cooler as we have a good bit of cloud today. Waaaay too hot for this girl over the weekend so very little done in the garden. Spent yesterday afternoon with some DVD's and a bottle of wine. Nice! A wee bit of Scotch Mist hanging around the mountains, might clear up later today. In the meantime I'm off for a wee walk to get the muscles moving.

Muggy, largely cloudy but bright. Currently 20.8c And feels very ‘close’.
Looks like we’ll get low 20s most of the week which is quite nice.

Hopefully a thunderstorm or two thrown into the mix!

Groundhog Day but less exciting as no snowstorm ? seems to follow a pattern of constant cloud during the day then the haar arrives in the evening. Wrf nmm looking somewhat interesting later today regarding thunder risk for areas further W/ NW and possibly SW with a convergence zone looking to setup for quite a long stretch. Models show anything that does develop lasting well into the evening also with them hovering over same areas could be risk of flooding with the heaviest ones. C706830B-48FC-4414-BC3C-21C7696EBC41.thumb.jpeg.6d31516e635c28f62efb45223717506d.jpeg33CDBD7E-74FD-4D9D-A5A1-73677FBBB0F1.thumb.png.640fa91f1899f79448f29fb7549f284e.png5B3DACCF-6AF0-421D-82F9-6D8CB6ABD664.thumb.png.7be94349356b7c65b6cbafda310b61e5.png365B6BD6-7108-463F-9208-BE675562D727.thumb.gif.40839ca09f2b2bd219ee3f80d60b43c1.gif

I am keeping an eye on those last charts! Heading out later for a walk to see if I can see/get under anything - bit too far North West here though so doubt it.

Ayrshire (new storm capital of Scotland 2020) has kicked off again - almost the exact same area as yesterday.

Met Office also has cells breaking out across many parts of the SW later.

@SW Saltire if you head W/NW (from Dumfries) you will probably see some action.

Meanwhile up here cloud is starting to break up - currently 19C and humid.

Lovely up in Orkney and Shetland...warm and plenty of sunshine.

@Norrance Not so lovely in Dundee! 12/13C high with drizzle/rain/fog/haar. ?

Cracking storm down there - wish we had a member in here who lived there! Great to see the pictures.

It is hard working from home when the radar is lively - if only it was Winter...guaranteed no excitement then! Just bog standard rain and wind nowadays! ?

Really going nuts now - blowing up all over the place.

@rossco89 this must be overhead or extremely close - can you see/hear anything?

@Stormeh You should have saved that Ayrshire beach trip for today! ?

Edit: South Lanarkshire might join in the fun shortly!
