Showers of soft hail and snow building to the north east over the Firth and wind freshening.

Cold biting wind but nothing noteworthy down here, still scraping up to 10.5c in my sheltered location.

Sun breaking through briefly, roll on the warmth (yawn)

After a couple of hours of pretty much constant light snow first thing this morning it cleared to blue skies, scattered cloud and a brisk cold wind. Dug out the hats and gloves for a very pleasant, if chilly, walk by the river Don with the dog. Glad we went then as this afternoon has seen plenty of heavy snow showers rattle through on the wind. Certainly doesn't feel like mid May, beats most of what we had Dec to Feb.

15 mins rather light snow a couple of hours ago. Groovy, not seen that in mid May for a long time, not at sea level anyway.

Trying to get on with that fence between showers. Doesn't actually feel that cold as the wind has dropped right off again.

Just a few flurries here of soft hail or graupel or is it snow pellets? Cold in the wind if out of the sun. Todays max was 9.5C which occurred at midnight last night. 
Daughters friend sent a pic from home in Boat of Garten earlier on. Not sure which one added the character from Frozen though?

Well quite. It wasn't really winter. 

I went for a solitary walk this afternoon, looking for something to wipe the gloom. Fkn politicians, can't they get something RIGHT for a change? 

The view west from up the hill, couldn't see the hills to say whether they were white or not 

 

Then above the wood, it tried to snow for a few minutes    pretty poor really    

 

Looking across to Nairn (which about where the brightest bit of low cloud is) and @Northernlights

Another graupel shower here but verging on being almost light snow! Pretty light though.

[A Winter's Tale]

A brief wintry shower has just passed through - just 24hrs after a maximum of 20C. I think it snowed exactly 10 years ago today.

A lovely February day.

Frequent fleeting showers of snow and graupel, the nearest to it lying for any period of time being this...

Gorgeous cloudscapes as well, the higher sun making for colours and shading you would not normally see.

Max temperature was 6c and the Northerly wind was strong to very strong until this evening - now calm and 0.5c so a frost is incoming as the skies have cleared.

All making a essential distraction from the garbled nonsense emanating from London - best summary so far of that.

It was indeed 12 May 1995.  The archive chart shows a trough over Scotland which came down in the north to north-easterly air stream and, although most of the country had a bright and showery day, this trough was associated with a spell of persistent snow.  It must have been a combination of persistent precipitation and arriving early in the morning that allowed snow to fall and accumulate widely, though before today I wasn't aware that it even settled in central Glasgow!

I still have memories of that day in Tyneside, there were some wintry showers overnight but it was a mainly sunny day with occasional rain or hail showers from cumulus congestus cells.  Just a week earlier temperatures had been around 25C!

Lovely bright, cold start to the day, with patches of snow lying on the grass and the roof of the house. It'll disappear quickly in the sun, but a bit of a surprise when I saw it.

Never thought I would be looking for snow in May but here we are looks like the cold 850s move back south again through tomorrow possibly the -10s getting near the N/NE and a front moving south wrf showing a dusting possible across a wide area I suspect mainly high ground but you never know.

Shower activity absent this morning so far.Cool start to the day at 1c but bright sunshine although it clouded over a bit later.

Clearer skies and less wind than yesterday. Ok the uppers might not be that warm but the sunshine and it really does feel very nice!

Wyvis again this morning, showing smaller and fewer old patches and yesterday's snow already limited to a thin, melting dusting above about 900m. 

 

Tomorrow morning looks unpleasant to be out in in the north. Yay, I'll do it.

More sunshine (I’ll never get tired of reporting that) and the wind eased this afternoon so as others have said a few degrees warmer than yesterday. Leuchars recorded 12c after only reaching 9c yesterday. Just 3mm of rain so far in May.

Lovely Goldilocks day, not too hot but not too cold.  Perfect day to dust down the bike, knock the rust of the chain and take advantage of the slightly quieter roads.

Maximum temperature was 12c and the rain showers were infrequent and fleeting in nature.  Stiff northerly breeze at times, having the unnerving ability to be at its strongest when you are trying to cycle up a north facing road. 

Lovely evening, the resident House Martins and Swallows putting on a mesmerising acrobatic show.  Crows definitely don't compare in the showmanship league.

Everything is so off-kilter at the moment the weather has been a welcome distraction. Snow showers all through Sunday, gave a wee covering three times before vanishing not long after the sun returns. Standard May stuff

 

Had a few more snow showers yesterday, Cairngorms from a local cycle route 

The amount of Sun and blue skies the last few weeks has been outstanding and thankfully enough light to hold off a complete morph in to a Scottish nosferatu. Conditions felt so prolonged and rare I found myself taking random pictures of just the blueness 

 

Wildlife has been plentiful, Goldfinches, always great

 

sea eagle has been over the house a fair bit with the skies perfect, dwarfing the buzzards and crows that are nearly always harassing it. Amazing things
