Afternoon peeps. Some developing showers inland Aberdeenshire now, might lead to some heavy ones later - outside risk of sferics. We've already had one shower through the city, so forecast for today pretty much accurate so far.

Best day of the year here so far. Warm and sunny, 20c. I notice the wind has shifted direction at Leuchars though!

Grey and cool here. Crap. And they can stick their union flags somewhere dark.

(Not best pleased as I have to work Sunday...) Maybe I'll get caught out in a blizzard?

Sunny ints here today and mild again with a max of 18.7C just topping yesterday so highest of the year so far. Like yesterday light showers bubbled up in the afternoon and this time carried on until the evening.

A bit of rain later tomorrow bringing in the much colder air but yet another essentially dry week coming up by the look of it.

Another lovely day with a max of 16C and plenty of sunshine.

Lovely sky through the window just before 20:00

Same tomorrow here (quite a few of us really) with a forecast of 17/18C (maybe even a 20C somewhere in Scotland!) before the crud arrives in the early evening - can’t really moan about a bit of rain after the weather of the last five weeks at least.

As @Norrance mentioned it does look as though many of us are heading for another mainly dry spell - five to seven days at least? (Sunday afternoon onwards - although not as sunny/warm as recently)

Latest ECM charts:

Snowfall roughly 400 meters and above over the hills/mountains tomorrow across in Argyll. (Much lower up in the Highlands)

Would love to be in Aviemore during the early hours of Sunday morning...

A wet and soggy affair with rain on and off all day.

Rain never that heavy but at times it was that kind of smirry rain that drenches you in a few minutes (so I suppose was heavy after all...).

Max temperature of 13c and light/calm wind.

Upgrade this morning for wintry precipitation on lower ground than previously thought?

You seen the latest update for Strathclyde? (Same for most parts of Scotland - even better in the North/North East if you like wintry weather at this time of year)

Strathclyde weather forecast:

Tonight:

Rainband soon spreading from the north, which clears to south overnight as it turns wintry to relatively low levels on retreating back edge, as cold freshening northeast wind sets in. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Euro4 and WRF NMM (latest runs) don’t really show anything for the West or Central Belt on low ground - GFS shows what it always does...

I wonder if the usual suspects @mardatha @Northern Strath @Ravelin @shuggee and a few others are going to see snow settling on the ground?

Also does anyone know the last time it snowed below 200 meters in May? (Anywhere in Scotland)

Pretty noteworthy stuff tonight/early hours if it all comes off!

The weather forecast just now on BBC breakfast mentioned the possibility of waking up to a dusting of snow above 100m on Sunday morning. That would certainly cover me. Quite a novelty for May if it happens, but I'd rather it was warm now.

I have witnessed it snowing in Scotland in June before, but that was 800m+ whilst climbing a Munro.

Ok, so who said about 3 weeks ago that there was no sign of anything wintry on the charts and I should fit the summer tyres?

Summer tyres now fitted and I have an overnight commute up the A9 tonight. :olddoh:

I remember cycling to school through heavy snow at the end of May. A long time ago! We were 'ard then. (Actually not, it was painful in summer version school uniform....)

I'm going to see if I can find a gritter to follow - trunk road gritter tracker website... looks like they're all in for their morning toast in Sneckie just now.

Some impressive dew points especially further west @Mr Frost included Likely due to the mostly dry airB6596BA9-1703-4388-8E9B-3750EEC1C60C.thumb.png.fb7d4a223c7a1f3c5adc22515e402df9.png not sure about back edge stuff don’t think the cold air will dig in quite quick enough but looks like some snow flurries / showers for higher areas especially highlands 10902E0C-F6EC-47A2-8F40-089129F5FBEB.thumb.png.5643fc94dd9c2ff9868d89826ceae329.pngA040A637-912C-4253-9A6A-54C9B769A54F.thumb.png.e097cf6bfcc2bb670190b0c00ab3262d.png

that looks to be about the position of the -10 850s but the majority in -8 still noteworthy for May. 2361C8DE-4472-46F5-996F-E8B7036E951E.thumb.png.80492083d48694bfcf873d75c3988372.png

we had snow to sea level on the 12th May 1995 in the west of Scotland. I remember it well as I was learning to drive and my Dad made me drive from Kilmacolm to Paisley along the back roads in heavy snow.

I can also remember snow to slightly below 200m in May 2012 as again I was driving in it, this time from Kelso to Paisley for work when I first moved to the Borders.

There's a Paisley theme starting here

@CatchMyDrift I remember the 1995 event. It was remarkable as there was lying snow even in central Glasgow that morning. I was starting a new job that day!  As I recall there was around 20cm of lying snow in higher parts of Lanarkshire, in places like Lanark.

It's currently 18.7C with a fairly dramatic sky out the window:

18.7C? :blink2::blink2:

Haven't seen anything like that since er… France in October! Currently 11C and starting to rain quite heavily and the breeze has picked up too.

Edit... stove's on now, going to need the heat over the next couple of days.

Move south ;)

Sun has returned with temp breaching 21c. Probs gonna max at 22ish so the first warm day of the year and feels humid. Not pleased it’s all to go as it makes days off from work in lockdown so much better

Wouldn’t say D&G is overpopulated ;)

fair point re snow (sighs)

Cloud is starting to roll in so probs the max, currently 21.7c.
To be honest we need more rain... sadly the outlook is still fairly dry so not ideal esp if we get some heat before month end but the weather will do what it’s gonna do
